Hi to everyone , this is my first post in the forum but I wish it was under happier circumstances . We have two boars Frank and Henry who have been living in relative harmony for just over a year now, the occasional teeth chattering and rumblingstrutting is the norm for these two however over the last couple of weeks the situation has escalated with constant mounting coming from the both of them. Yesterday they came out for some floor time and a sustained attacked occurred with constant teeth chattering, facing up to each other and a lunge attack from henry towards frank. It`s the first time i`ve seen it so bad and we split it up immediately. After letting them both calm down for a bit we reintroduced them and it started up again almost immediately. We have since bought a second cage and separated them.
Henry the smaller of the two , seems as happy a larry in his new home but Frank is seriously distressed about being split up, we have tried placing the cages together , so they can see each other but this makes matter worse as he frantically tries to bite through the bars to get to his long time room mate. Have we been to eager to pull them apart? but considering the vicious attack was this wise? Also any advice on how to proceed would be welcomed with open arms.

I dont really have much experience with fighting piggie sbecause mine have always got along but I think you did the right thing pushing the cages up together and maybe you should see how things get along for a while as long as theres no danger of them hurting eachother

Seems like little henry is the boss piggy to me ;D

Try not to worry too much hunny O0 All my boars go through there naughty phases and i have had to separate once and I'm about to rebond them soon ~ Personally i wouldnt of separated them myself unless there was blood/cuts involved but some people think this is going too far or is too late but to me it could be worse as all i think is that theyve just had a little fight and want to see whos gonna rule who etc and dont see much wrong with it ~ I think bonding boars is way easier than bonding sows in my experience hence why i have more boars than sows :D

Theres a few options that you can do
* Neuter them both and get them a girlie each but you have to consider they may not like the girlies but most of the time they do ^-^
This can cost quite a bit depending on where you go and where you live etc but the majority of the time its for the best like when 2 boars fight, there also can be risks involved with this too and this considers alot of thinking and planning before hand ~ Also depends if youve got the space and money to do this

*Try reading up on rebonding the 2 lads and hope it goes to plan and they live together without any more problems, this takes time and patience though but can be a very happy ending for both of you as no more money is involved for buying more piggys or for neutering

*Get hem a baby boar each but this can be just going back round in circles again if they have a fight when they are having teenager fights

Good Luck with whatever you decide to do O0 Let us know how you get on

Theres loads of advice out there if you just search in the search bar on how to bond the piggies if you want to get them to like each other again but remember you cant force them but it does take time ;D

Oh and to me ~ Pushing the cages next to each other is just going to tease them more and make them more angrier that they cant get to each other and fight one another ;) This will get them annoyed and when you try and rebond them again can cause more stress for them but at least you came here for advice and I'm sure even more experience people on here can offer you more advice :)

Get them Neutered and then leave them together if theres blood then keep them apart. Mines were the same and we have just got girls who they get floor time with and will livve with once the stitches have healed. xx

Neutering won't change their behaviour either. I have had this problem with my 2 boars Sunshine and Twinkle they now live seperatly. How old are they? Could be the hormonal stage. My 2 are both dominate but Sunshine more so. Twinkle pines for him and does bite the bars. They have been seperate since November and I am going to try and rebond them (was going to try tonight but my daughter has chicken pox!)

What about trying Frank with another pig if he is upset about being on his own? This is what I plan to do with Twinkle if my rebonding doesn't go to plan. Some rescues allow you to take a pig to a rescue to find the perfect little mate.

S&T there just over a year she said in her post at the top O0

Ah right, soz need me specs on! I double read it too! ;D

Then they are past the hormonal stage. I would probably get a pal for Frank and keep Henry next door. :)

We just tried to put them in together because the wheeking and squealing became unbearable , and seeing them this way is breaking our hearts. Needless to say it didnt go well , mounting from both sides to start with then a mass of fur and teeth , so for the minute Frank is in his room and we`ve moved henry to another room where they cant see or smell each other. Might try this for a while and see how it goes. We will keep an eye on their weights and eating habits and see what develops. Thanks to all who have offered advice but any more is still welcome x

boars hey ::) Hope they havent fell out properly :-\ Never had a piggy go through all that whilst there that age and have to separate them ~ Wander what made them turn against each other after living together for this long ?

Hope their ok and hopefully will settle down

We might be clasping at straws here but your last post made us think , the only thing we have changed over the past few weeks is their diet by giving them Ginkgo Plus boredom breaker. Could it be the Ginkgo Leaves setting them off? Just looked online and its used in energy drinks :D

;D ;D I'm really not sure to be honest as ive never heard of it :D I'm sure someone will tell you soon O0

Right! some more online checking and I think we`ve cracked it. A word of warning to all........the gingko boredom breaker from a well know pet store chain also contains green oats which is also known as Avena sativa. A known aphrodisiac :smitten:. Needless to say the offending snack has been binned and we will keep frank and henry separated for a couple of weeks to allow it out of their system. After a supervised introduction to each other ill post again to let you know how it went ;)

;D ;D Lets hope they get whatever it is out of there system then ;)

Sounds like it could have been that that caused the problem. As you say give them a week or two and try again. Have a look on barmy4boars they have some tips for bonding boys.

Thankyou so much for all the advice you have put our minds at ease, I know its late and most of you are probably in bed but its the first bit of peace we have had all day , both Frank and Henry have calmed down and are sleeping like babies in their separate rooms :) I will of course keep you posted but if the snack we have been giving them is to blame (fingers crossed) I will contact the manufacturer to make them aware so maybe other piggy owners might avoid the same problem. This is a great friendly forum and I will recommend it to anyone who cares to listen x

Awwwww :smitten:

They must be sleeping like babies in there own house :D

Yep its great here. Hope you Stick around, the more the merrier! Good idea about sending the manufacturers an email. Really makes me mad when things like this happen! Like me with Lucozade makes me have an energy burst and I can't keep still, same with Lockets as well make me hyper so I guess even for animals certain things can set them off.

:)

completely of the subject here in australia we can buy in supermarkets peter's guinea pig and rabbit pellets and peter's guinea pig and rabbit mix. about 10 years ago went to vet as thumper and bambi the bunnies had the sticky poop that stuck to bob tails and petal and rosie looked pregnant(all RIP 0:) 0:) 0:)) was told that both the pellets and mix was rubbish, was like feeding a child lollies 24/7. once we stoped the bunnies poop returned to normal, and the guinea pigs lost a little weight. well we emailed the manuafacturer and was told we were the first complaint that they had many happy customers and our animals were 4 out of hundreds of thousands happy customers who used the products. these products were all approved by the australian RSPCA which is why we bought them. so don't be surprised if the manufacturer doesn't listen to you. :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: good luck with your boys. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: we have a female guinea pig jessie age nearly 1.8 years old if she has passed the teenage period then why does she still rumble, rump wobbles, and tries to boss zoe around and if barrier was gone she would mount zoe, nip zoe and chase her all around. any ideas on jessie? apart from cold showers(just kidding about the showers) good luck with your boys. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
