Hi all,
So yesterday we got two guinea pigs. My son is autistic and became besotted with one in particular, as we were looking to get a pet soon we decided to go for them. We bought a 50x100 cage as very temporary accommodation. I’ve already ordered a correx sheet and cubes to make our own c&c cage on the weekend. The area I plan to make their new cage in is the play room where there’s a work top that runs along the wall. This would make the cage approx max 60x185cm Is that big enough for our two girlies? There is a washing machine that’s under the work top, not touching, on solid floor so it doesn’t make too much noise, is that going to be ok?
Anything else I should know about making a c&c cage? I plan on zip tying the bars together and there’s some units hanging on the wall above the worktop so I wouldn’t be able to add another level if they went there.

:wel:

185x60 is a great size for two piggies. They will love having a lot of space. Noise - they will get used to any sounds. it’s fine.
Regarding an upper level to the cage, it doesn’t matter that you won’t be able to. Upper levels don’t increase cage size, they are simply a bonus space as piggies need their space to be large and on one level.

I’ve added our most useful collection of guides for new owners in the link below. Do ask us questions though, we are happy to help!

:wel: We’d love to see some photos once your piggies have settled in.

Make sure they have hides (at least two) and cover part of the cage so they have somewhere to feel safe. Put their food near them so they don’t have to go far to eat.

Also importantly, I’m not sure where you got your piggies from. If a pet shop then please double check their sex.

Lastly, enjoy 😁

Great setup.
Welcome to the forum.
We would love pictures of the piggies too
Thank you!
So they’re both girls and my son named them. The white one is ‘the greatest Showman’ and brown and white is ‘Hairy Mcclarey’ or hairy and Showman for short 🙈 I’ve no idea what breed they are. They’re still very jumpy and difficult to catch!

So great to see they have such an amazing set up. As an autistic guinea pig owner myself I think the names are great and I hope your son really gets a lot out of having them. 😀
Thank you! I’m autistic too so I didn’t need much convincing from him for a new obsession 🙈 He’s so good with them already!
