Did some more sewing today. This time I made the pigs a hidey house. As it was my first try it didn't turn out very tidy and there is a few things I would change next time, but that's always the case on my first try. Just like the teepee I made last week it has a pee pad inside which is reversible (should have been a bit bigger though) It had only been in the pigs cage for about 2 minutes and there was poops inside of it. Haha! What do you guys think?

did you use wadding inside to make it more stiff?

Ye go for it! Make sure you show me yours when you've done it :))
I did look at wadding but I don't think it would be strong enough. I used 1/2 inch thick foam. My sewing machine could just about handle that (it's not a very expensive one though) Good luck!

I love it, you are very clever. I've got fleece poised ready, machine in the living room, bobbins threaded, just can't pluck up the courage to have a go.

What have you got to loose? I have only been sewing for a couple of months, so if I can do it ! I have watched quite a lot of tutorials on YouTube. Maybe have a look on there and then just give it a go. Just use some cheap material first in case you go wrong. My first try is never as tidy as the following ones I make.

i struggled with needles breaking, my record was 5 in one day i think when i started using fleece ! i used to fear for my eyesight incase a bit of needle ended up in my eye and the bang it makes is horrendous lol !

Haha! Funnily enough I've not had a needle break on me yet. Which is surprising as I sometimes jam so much in that my little machine is struggling...

you must have good needles then.. the ones i was using were old but original ones so they mustve been good ones.. i brought new ones which were wrong, think this batch are suitable for denim so can cope - so far so good !

I love it! I can make liners and snuggle sacks but haven't attempted one like this yet. Did you just do a rectangular piece with the foam and then sew the base on separately? Thanks! :)

I made a sort of pillowcase to go around the rectangular piece of foam. Then folded the open end inwards and sewn it shut. I then sewed a rectangle about two inches from the outside so the foam will stay in place. (you can see it in the photo if you look closely) Then just put the bottom in but fold it inside out first so the seams end up on the inside when you turn it back around.

Thanks, I understand making the 2 separate bits, but did you leave some extra material at the edge without foam in to sew the 2 pieces together...foam bit to the thin base bit? I feel like it would be hard to fit it all under the needle otherwise :p

Ah, I see what you mean. I didn't leave enough space actually. I ended up sewing the thin base bit onto the foam. Next time I would leave an extra centimeter of two although I wonder if sewing it onto the foam made it sturdier? I think mine is ever so slightly too big though. A smaller tunnel part would be less wobbly. It's a bit of experimenting to be honest. Good luck. Let us see yours when you are done!

Yeah maybe slightly smaller would be good! I had so many rubbish ones when I first started doing snuggle sacks etc. :p Will def try one of these and let you know how it goes...could I ask 1 more question...where did you get the foam? I can seem to only find strips or stuffing not sheets of it?! thanks again!

Well I got mine from Dunelm but it was 1 inch thick which was way too thick so I ended up having to cut it in half with a stanley knife. It was so fiddly, I wouldn't recommend it at all! I'm going to order this one though. You can collect it at your local Argos if you have one near you (who doesn't?!)
