Bullseye

I build my boy a run this weekend
4 x 4 foot attached to his hutch
raised the hitch to give a shaded play area underneeth
looks rubbis but its sturdy and i can get in with him
so i think it will help with bonding
he like the slope which i covered with a tea towel for grip
it has to top so i cannot leave him in it on his own

can a run be too big?

he does seem a little bit lost in it

also i can see him looking at how to get out

maybe he needs a playmate they like company so i read another boy maybe?!:))

i think he's just nervous because of the new surrroundings. i would say just let him settle in and see how he's doing maybe a week from now:)

I expect he is just a bit nervous of all the space, especially as he is by himself; is there any chance you can get him a friend? I think having a pal really helps in situations like this.
In the mean time, he will be more adventurous if you fill the run with things to hide in and run between, such as tubes, a big flower pot on it's side, cardboard boxes stuffed with hay, wooden huts, brick houses, etc etc. I find piggies feel more secure like this and are more outgoing. Also it may help to cover the top with a rug because of the security again.
Hope this helps, he will love being out soon :)) xx

Guinea pigs are naturally wary of open spaces, as some of their biggest traditional predators are birds of prey.
You can cover the run with an old rug for shade or a foldable wooden frame to which you staple chicken wire and then peg a towel over. To cover the ramp, you coould construct a little marquee with a couple of bamboo sticks and an old tea towel.

Put in lots of little hidey places - cardboard or soap boxes, tunnels so he has somewhere to explore the run from; remember, new territory is hostile territory for a guinea pig, so he needs a secure base, lines of retreat etc. - treat it like a military exercise! :)):)):))

i am aware of this and the plan is to keep a boar if Phoebe has any

for now - the runs are together and he gats to play along side the others

he seems happy enough

he popcorns lik you would not believe

the ramp - i am thinking it may go altogether as i placed a little house under it to ensure it could not be knocked and fall and Bridhe likes to climb onto the house and into his hutch

its kind of a work in progress and it seems to work
will construct a mesh top that can come off so i can get in with him perhaps

Good idea! My piggies quite like to poke around my legs and sit underneath!
