My guinea pigs' new runs came today, and they're so happy! They're about the same size as their old run, but that wasn't connected to their house, and they had to take turns in it, on the grass. But these ones, they'll be able to go out into whenever they want. I thought the girls would be too nervous to come out, but they did and they wandered around and ate some grass and parsley and the boys were popcorning and running around! :)

I think I might have enough room for 1 or 2 more girls now too :P Do you think it's big enough for 3 or 4 pigs? The runs are about 4' X 3' and the hutches are about 3' X 1.75', I think. And they use the ramps fine now, no bother. I know the sleeping area isn't very big, but with the run aswell, do you think it's big enough for me to get 1 or 2 more girls someday (say if I come across some rescue ones).

The girls' run, I have to add some furniture though, it looks very bare, I put in a little hidey house but I also will get a couple of tunnels, a hay rack, a food ball, some chew toys :)

I love buying them new things, and I think they've plenty of space now, so that makes me happy :)

They all look thrilled with their runs!:<>

They're gorgeous too! xoxo

It looks great, oodles of space!

Yes, you may have room for another girl right now, but they won't be able to use the space in the winter... Maybe you have another indoor cage for winter?

That's true about the winter, I didn't think of it. I was thinking of moving them to the shed in the winter. The rabbits are in there at night, but I was going to put up two shelves (8' X 2') made into guinea pigs pens. Would 8' X 2' be ok for three girls? Or the three boys I already have. I think it would if I remember from the guineapigcages website. It'd be a bit narrow and long. They'll have heat pads in there, so hopefully that'll be ok for winter. And little wooden houses to sleep in with lots of hay.

I think 8x2 will be fine for 3 piggies. Those guidlines are good, but they are not the law. With the right layout a long cage can be just as good as a wide one, I think.

Oh and I'm still going to put them out in the hutch and run in the winter during the day, unless it's snowing or lashing rain or very cold. I think animals should get time outside if it's possible, and I'd hate them to be in a shed (even with windows) for the whole winter, just because they're used to being outdoors now, watching cats and birds and dogs coming and going! :)

I've put in their tunnels and a few hidey houses and stuff and they look much better. :)

It's made so much of a difference in the girls, they're always outside int he run, coming up to me squeaking for food. And Lola was having a walk around (with my right there) and squeaking away happily to herself or to me? And she was also outside lying down in the sun! Lola and Sukie are nervous piggies, because I stupidly got them in a pet shop (but don't regret it cos I love them) so it means a lot to me that they're getting more confident :)

The boys are always out running around because they're brave!

Would you mind if I make a suggestion though? May be you could replace the wooden heart latch with barrel bolts. I have heard stories of them heart latches working loose and / or preditor's opening the heart shaped latch xx

They are gorgeous piggies :) I think they are enjoying their space!

Oh, and I agree with the suggestion by Claire about the heart locks, I have had neighbours cats opening mine before I put bolts on!

Thanks for looking out for the piggies. :) I did put one bolt on the girls' hutch but then I realised that you can tighten the heart latches and then they're really hard to loosen. :) If they get looser over time then I'll put on bolts, but they're fine right now as long as I tighten them well everytime I shut the door. There's no way the cats can get in. (Which is good because I have 5 cats!) I did have a problem with the doors at the bottom of the hutch/run, one came open (a tom cat was around so I blame him!) and we had an escapee at 6am in the dark! But he went back in on his own, thank god! So I have clips on those to keep them shut now.
