Hey all, I went into pets at home and in the adoption center I saw Jordan, a chocolate brown Guinea pig on his own, he is about 6 months old, the story is the owner was breeding him but couldnt keep him anymore as he was fighting with the babys.

I have him in a seperate cage and during the day I have my 1+ year old piggys and him in the run which Jordan is seperated with c&c grids in the run as well as c&c grids under the grass, as i have cusermised the run to be fox proof. My boys have a hutch and a tube which I attached to the outside run (I will show pictures later)

Anyway they are able to see each other and sniff each other, I am very confused as I thought my boys would show some kind of body language or noise but they are acting as if he has been with them the whole time. One of my boys, Bruno, even gave Jordan kisses thought the c&c bars. I gave them veggies close to the bars and they were eating on both their sides fine together. Jordan being a youngster seems as though he just wants to play with them rather than attack. They also chat together with the little noises they make.

I'm not going to put them all in straight together obviously I'm going to keep watching and see how it goes but is this a good sign or a bad sign? I read of other peoples piggys showing agression and fighting but my 2 boys are so chilled and relaxed its hard to know what they are thinking and feeling.

They both even relaxed by the c&c bars while Jordan relaxed on the other side with them, like they would if they all cuddled together.

Why do I always have to have confusing pets! <3

That is lovely you have offered him a friend. Unfortunately Trios of boars rarely work, a search on this forum will show weekly we get members joining having issues with boar trios. Once the hormones hit it can result in fights and broken bonds. Would you consider getting Jordan a friend and having two pair?

I would consider getting Jordan a friend, most places sell piggys in pairs in the adoption part though

You can try - there is the odd trio that actually works out; and it is usually a one not too dominant and two laid back boy combo, especially if they can choose each other and the majority are hormonally more settled adults. I would give them some time to become friends fthough the bars first and Jordan to get the hang of his new life.

However, it may be a completely different story when you do the full intos, so you'd better have your gloves at the ready and be prepared to split, especially if your bonded couple is getting into trouble with each other in case tensions spill over.

It depends very much on how badly messed up Jordan is and how desperate he is for company of his own choice, as well as how the dominance can be sorted. Breeders tend to just stick piggies together in tiny cages without any regard to basic guinea pig behaviours and protocol and are then amazed when things blow up. :(

You could always consider booking Jordan in at a rescue that offers boar dating under expert supervision, ideally residential boar dating. If you please added your UK county to your details, we may be able to give you tips. It is more likely that this is the safer way to go down.

Please go to a proper rescue to allow Jordan to choose who he likes. Just sticking two boars together is only working about half the time - and with boars at the worst bonding age like Jordan when testosterone is at an all time high, chances are much lower that they'll hit it off!

Can you please add your country, state/province or UK county to your details so we can help you work out the best way forward with what your local options are.
Please click on your username on the top bar, then go personal details and scroll down to location. This makes it appear with every post you make. We have got members from all over the world and very different access to good rescues and vet care as well as backgrounds and climate.

Thanks Wiebke, I will go to a proper rescue to see if Jordan is compatible with any of the other piggys, the link you sent shows one nearby in Ewell (I'm in Surrey) so I will contact them and see what they say, I think I will get Jordan fixed before getting him a cage mate so more chance to see if he is compatible with males or females
