Hiya :) so two weeks ago I adopted two male, rosette pigs at around 7 weeks old (they're absolutely lovely!)
This is the first time I've had my own and did as much research I could before bringing the boys home; the first week all was fine, getting used to the new surroundings and me of course. But, it's now been two weeks that I've had them and they seem to be getting a bit rowdy -- at random times one boy (win) will start to chatter his teeth (which I known is an irritated noise) at the other (ron), then they'd both do a quick run around. What confuses me is that win chatters his teeth but ron will continue squeaking as normal?

I've read some more forums, and while some say them fighting is natural as they're both male and are figuring out whose 'in charge', that there's no need for separation unless someone is hurt, others are saying that I should separate them immediately, but for how long? How would they live together after being separated? Gosh there's almost too much information

Sorry for this late night essay! I'll stop here, but I've definitely got more questions 😂 x greatful for any advice!

Hi and welcome!

What you are are currently witnessing is simply normal mild dominance behaviour. there are two types of teeth chattering, a low one, which means simply 'I don't like this' and a really loud and intense one, which is a warning. Yours is clearly the frst variety!
Your two boys are still sub-teenagers and are just coming to the end of the bonding process where they have set up a working group in new territory.

Dominance Behaviours In Guinea Pigs

The majority of boars do not fight and fall out, in fact. But the risk is much higher in same age teenage boys that have been bought for looks and not whether they were hanging out together where they were bought from.
Cage size is important; our boar guide also lists the other dos and don'ts that are especially crucial during teenage.

If you find these guide above helpful in learning what is normal and what not, then you may find our full new owners guide collection interesting, which specifically addresses all the areas in which we get the most questions and concerns in a practical and as precise as possible way.
The collection is there to serve as a reference book you can look things up whenever needed as it is there to help you learn what is normal and what not - only that it is so much easier to keep it constantly updated in its current form!

Please take the time to read our bonding/social interaction guides and boar guides to understand their behaviour.
