Hi All,
I'm a new piggy momma and I have a couple of questions. He is very timid but I talk to him whenever I pass his cage or I'll open the door and pet him while he's in there. When I do take him out I kinda wrap him in a towel kinda like a kangaroo pouch and he does very well with this. Am I doing these things right to get him used to all of us.
Secondly, on some websites Ive read that piggys do better with a friend. Should I get him a friend or is it to late? He is about 4-6 wks old. I did get him at Petsmart and the manager told me that the ones they have now all came in at the same time. I love my little Scotchie and I want to do the right thing. Please help a newbie by guidance and instruction.

P.S. He has bitten me a couple of times but I figured it was because he was scared and nervous. I just got him last Saturday .

Firstly, you are doing all the right things to get him used to you. :) Well done.
How hard is the biting? Is it drawing blood, or a little but probably still painfull nip?

Lastly, yes, definatly find him a friend :) Not just because he will be lonely, but also because if you only have one guinea pig, you miss out on half the fun, which is their interaction with eachother. :)
The best possible way to find your piggy a friend, would be to see if there is a reputable guinea pig rescue in your area that does boar dating (thats where your boy gets to choose which other boy he would like as a friend) If this is not possible, hopefully others will come along with ideas as boars can sometimes be fussy about which friend they would like! :)

Defo get him a little friend, boars are harder to pair as they do claim their dominance quite often but as he's so young he'll accept a friend a lot easier, Guinea Pigs are such social animals and need a friend to play with and speak to, but when you get him a friend don't put them in the same cage straight away have a look on sites how to pair new ones together. Your doing everything fine with your piggy and I did the towel trick which worked fine with my 3, he'll be nipping you to get to know you, young pigs are the worst for it also he'll lick you as they like the taste of the salt on your skin, but if you smell of food then he will try to have a nibble thinking your fingers are food! xx
