Hi, i am new to the forum. just looking for a bit of advice to make sure i am doing the best for my 2 new guinea pigs. i have had piggies in the past but not for about 6 years-been a bit of a rabbit person since then!

Anyway, i rehomed two 14-15 week old males yesterday. they are fairly well handled and once caught they will happily sit and be groomed etc. they are obviously still a bit traumatised from moving but are eating and pooing.

I have a 2 tier hutch and a separate run for grazing. i have an igloo and a tube and intend to get a few more little toys. the hutch bottom part is on paving stones.

so my questions are....

can they go on grass at 14weeks?
what is the best dry mix food?
how much fresh veg?
is it ok for them to be on paving stones?

any other advice greatly appreciated! thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum!
I will try to answer your questions.

- can they go on grass at 14weeks?
Yes, that is fine. As long as they are in a fenced off area so nothing can get them.

-what is the best dry mix food?
I just go to the pet store and buy pellets. Don't feed them seeds with the hard case still on because they get it stuck in their teeth or they can choke.

-how much fresh veg?
1 cup a day max.

-is it ok for them to be on paving stones?
Yes. It would wear down their ever growing nails. Be sure to provide them with soft hay to walk on as well.

Hope this helps,
Guineagurl

thankyou! i put them out on grass for couple of hours this morning as wasnt sure that they had been on grass before and didnt want to cause any tummy problems. they are still really scared-understandably. i guess i just hanle them every day to tame them and calm them down?
