Hiya, I’ve found myself in a very difficult position- I recently bought a Guinea pig from a seller and upon arrival home I noticed the boy had all wounds on his back as well as limping on his back leg. The woman I bought him from has blocked me on all means of communication and I’m struggling financially at the moment I know I should of thought this through but he needed rescuing- by the way he is comfortable and happier now he’s out of that environment there was mass overcrowding and dirty spaces. I’m just looking for some advice on what I should do I’m a new piggie owner and I feel as though I’m in way over my head :(

Welcome to the forum, I’m so sorry to hear this.

I’m afraid, there is no means of come back through a private sale. It is down to you to sort his medical needs now - he will need to be seen by a vet to address any medical issues he may have (and do be aware that they may be more than those which you can see).

Once his medical issues are dealt with, he will need to be bonded with another piggy (they always need to be kept in pairs, as single piggies get lonely).

We can help you with everything you need to know.
If you really do feel you cannot manage with the situation, then surrendering him to a rescue centre for urgent help would be the best thing.

I agree that he needs to see a vet.

If you're struggling financially, sometimes vets will be able to help you with a payment plan. The Blue Cross and PDSA sometimes have low-cost vets too.

You've done a good thing rescuing him- I don't think he would've got any help in his previous situation.

Could you upload some photos of the cuts on his back? Was he living with other guinea pigs originally which might have caused them?

Poor boy sounds like he's really been put through it. A vet visit really is necessary to know what's going on. If he's come from an overcrowding situation it's likely the scabs are from fights with other piggies but mites and malnutrition are also common in neglected piggies. It will take a hands on consultation with an exotics vet to make a plan for how to patch up this little guy.
