Hi,

So, I'm adding another lady to my group of piggies! She needs a new home and I have the time and money to put into one more so I figured, "Why not?." I pick her up tomorrow morning and she's a pretty Abby or AbbyX with some calico cat looking colours. I know I need to make the cage bigger but how much bigger is the question. Right now it is a 2 foot by 4 foot grid cage. I'm under the impression that this is good for two pigs but since I'm going to have a fourth soon, renovations need to take place :) I know that building a little second level is said to be just a bonus and not anymore exercise room but how true is this? I can build out more on the single level but it would be nice to go up rather than out. Anyways, I'm just throwing this out there and wanted to know what other owners of four piggies have done for cage setups.

Thanks!

I have four pigs and my cage is 8 by 3. I think this is a perfect size as it allows the piggies to run and zoom about and I don't need to worry about giving exercise time. Just make it as big as you can.

Do not forget to quarentine your new piggy before introducing her. It usually takes two weeks.

You bet! Thanks! I do give mine exercise time every evening in the tv room- they're so funny- they just enjoy waddling in circles all around the furniture :) I am thinking of going with the equivalent of your 8x3 but unfortunately due to the shape of the room, it will have to be an L shape! But I'm sure they'll just zoom around the little corner anyhow! Have you ever bothered with a second level? I have a little second level "loft" where I store the bag of hay and their food which is really handy. I don't think I'll end up adding a second level as I think the bottom area will be enough! Spoiled pigs ;)

Makes sense! I tried the ramps once. Oreo and Spike just looked at me like... "That's too much exercise." :) lol! I can't blame them! It's like my pet rabbit, everyone always asks me why I rarely pick her up. I always think if I was 12 pounds and a prey animal, I wouldn't particularly enjoy being lifted off the ground either! :)

I totally agree. I never pick up my rabbit unless I cut his nails. Rabbits hate being picked up.

Rabbits are such divas :) I think mine just likes to be toted around like a princess in her little dog kennel! When I bring her out her veggies in the evening, she'll take the tupperware, throw it across her enclosure and then stare at me until I pick it up at which point she starts eating like a horse :) Haha! She's quite the character!

Lol! She is funny! I just had her outside in the backyard for a little romp tonight- there's just enough grass uncovered that she can go binkying on! She's getting used to the harness now which I only make her wear when she's not in her pen because I put a little dog tag with her name and my number etc. on it. I'm for the most part against harnesses on rabbits especially small ones cuz I've heard horror stories of rabbits panicking etc. She pretty much looks exactly like the jackrabbits that live on our street aside from the fact that it's winter and they're all white now and although she does grow a winter coat, it stay brown all winter. But I'm paranoid that if she goes missing people will just think she's a jackrabbit! I've learned that domesticated rabbits can't actually run as far as wild rabbits- they apparently need to take frequent rests so I suppose that might work in my favour should she ever get loose but not so much in hers! The yard's bunny proofed though so I'm quite content in that not happening but you never know!
