Hi,

Sadly I've just lost a piggie and he's left a Tricky that has just turned about 1 years old.

I'm wondering what age range is a good age for a piggie to be his new friend.

Also, where could I find such a piggie in London? is there a recommended rescue in london?

Many Thanks

Hi and welcome!

I am very sorry for your loss! You are welcome to post a tribute to your boy in our Rainbow Bridge section if and whenever it feels right for you.

There are several recommended good standard rescues in the outskirts of London that we can vouch for. A number of them are not that far from stations if you don't have a car. Have a look at which ones you can travel to and then try and find one that is able to date Tricky to help him find a character compatible friend. Age is a lot less important than character compatibility; an age gap can actually help to stabilise a boar bond where one of the boars is still sub-adult. And adult boar past his teenage hormones might work out better than a youngster, but that is up to Tricky! It takes on average about 1-3 boars to find "Mr Right", so if you could date him, it is worth going that bit further afield.
You can find our UK rescue locator together with our recommended UK vets locator on the top bar, but here is the link directly: Guinea Pig Vet Locator

I'm sorry for your loss! Age isn't a huge factor in terms of whether pigs get along (I have an elderly almost-6-year-old paired with a 1-year-old right now... they've been together since the elder was 4 and the younger was a baby. They get along fine, although the old pig definitely has less energy than the young pig in spite of the baby trying to coax her to run around more!) Hopefully someone else can recommend a good rescue in your area, I'm in Canada so can't help much there!
