Hi,

I'm a new owner of a lovely guinea pig named Leo. I've never had any pet in the past so I'm learning a lot, and I have a few question for you guys, you seem to be very good with yours !

My piggie is trying to escape from me when I want to touch him and get him out of is cage to cuddle and play.

Plus, when I do succeed taking him out of his cage (after a little run from him), he doesn't move, like he's frozen. He's just having a little vibration in his body like he's very scared. I only put him aside of me or on me and cuddle gently.

I'd like him to be more entertained!

I also tried giving him different vegetables as treats like cucumbers, green pepper, etc. The only thing he likes for the moments is carrots.

It's been now a week since I got him and he's 5 months old.

Please give me some advise!

Joe

You may be better posting on.another section as this is the technical help section, but we are all here to help. My boy took a bit to settle in but he is now a very tame boy and loves Cuddles with his mummy x

My Tango is a shy boy too. He really doesn't like being picked up but I have found he will go into a cosy and be picked up and seems much more relaxed at cuddle time. He eats his treats inside his sack and doesn't get so stressed and jumpy.

I have started making cosy sacks and I am selling some on Ebay (item no. 150670253390)

I'm sure your little Leo will soon get used to being handled. Make sure you have contact with him every day and he knows that it's your ahnd that feeds him :)

This is the way with guinea pigs. They are prey animals so each time they are picked up they feel afraid. Keep picking him up each day and talk softly to him. Have him on your lap maybe under a fleece so he feels safe. |Guinea pigs always feel safer when their faces are hidden. The best thing you can do for Leo is to get him a friend. Guinea pigs are very lonely on their own. They are social animals and need company. With shelters they offer a dating service were your little one can choose his own friend. You would be making the world of difference to him.
