Hi, I'm new and have had my guinea pigs (2 boys) for about a month now. About 2 weeks ago one of them has had a dry ear based off of a Google search I instantly thought mites but I'm not so sure anymore. I don't have the money right now for a vet so I'm seeing if someone here might be able to help.

Welcome to the Forum.

Based on your description this could be a number of things, including something like ringworm, which is highly contagious (also to humans).
The only way to have a clear answer is to see a vet.
Home based treatments for an undiagnosed condition may simply mask the symptoms, rather than treat the problem.

A vet fund is a very important part of pet owwnership and something you need to consider.
In the short term is it possible to borrow money to have your new piggies have a basic vet check?

Please feel free to post a photo. However, this is a forum that does not advocate home treating. We always advise seeing a vet, so in all likelihood that is the advice you will receive.

Hi!

Please have your piggy vet checked for potential ringworm; this is a highly contagious and aggressive form of fungal skin infection that can jump species, including humans. In the USA, pet stores cover all problems that turn up within a month of purchase; if there is any problem shortly after a purchase, please contact the seller first and foremost. Pet store purchases are protected by customer rights, just as any other sale.
You can find information on your customer rights for several countries, as well as the most common problems with newly purchased piggies and detailed information on ringworm. Please take the time to read the information.

Please save up for vet care as part of their weekly/monthly living and maintenance cost right from the start and ideally before you get any pet of whatever species; vet care will overall make the largest life time budget post in any pet's life - including guinea pigs. The right to be free from pain and discomfort is one of the five basic animal freedoms, which have been officially acknowledged by the US. As a forum, we do not support DIY home treatment on spec since we are sadly too often contacted with the sorry results of it.

Thanks for the information cause I did not know that about the pet store! I called and they are going to take a look at him tomorrow :)

I would take your boys to an independent vet and have the pet shop pay the fees. Don’t let them keep them in the shop. They check them over and prescribe the meds for you to go home with.
