New Male (what to do?)

Hi,

On Thursday we were asked to rehome my husband's neices guinea pig as she was not looking after him properly.

The problem is we already have a group of 5 guinea pigs and 1 is a neutered male.

I know from reading lots of bonding pages on guinea pigs that we have no chance of introducing the new boy to the group but would it be possible to at least let him see the group through mesh?

I was thinking that we could partitian off a section of the guinea pig play area for the new piggie so at least he has company of sorts but could this still cause problems with the other male?

it most probably would cause your other male to get distressed especially since your girls would show interest in the new boy,you are much better off to get him a boar friend of his own and house them well away from the girls or they could fight,or you could neauter him qand get him a lady friend in which case you wouldnt have to be so careful about housing him as far as possible from your group xxxxxxxx
 
I had 2 groups in a run side by side in the garden. They were 1 catrated male and 3 females on both sides. I did find with one of the groups the boy was getting quite annoyed at having this other boar near him and did go for the girls a few times.
 
I would think that one of the boys wouldn't like it, and it could upset the group dynamics.!

You can either get your new boy a little friend or have him neutered and put him with one or two of your girl, so you have two sepearate groups.

My husband does not want to get an more piggies and I do not want to split our current group up.

I think I need to work on hubby regarding getting new boy neutered and getting another female.

thats a great idea,
if you do happen to run into trouble and not be able to give him a friend maybe consider putting him in our rehoming section or there are plenty of rescues who can help xxxxx
 
I usually get my way eventually. And hubby has a very big sofy spot for piggies...:))
