I just ordered this kit - http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/rodents/accessories/cage_accessory_sets/152469 - for the boys in hope that things will become a bit more equal in the cage between the boys. I am really looking forward to getting it seeing what the boys think :(|)

However if Hamish continues to claim EVERYTHING in the cage and leaving poor Robin to just sit there in the same spot I may end up giving Robin his own space. Yet I'm unsure if I did that...he might just do the exact same thing in a cage on his own. He might just have that sort of taste when it comes to space!

Anyone else find that with their pigs? Some just like to sit in the same spot for most of the day unless they're eating or drinking? Or is this a real sign of territorial bullying?

In a young piggy it is a rather a sign of bullying, whereas in an elderly piggy it is not uncommon.

Hopefully, having a choice of houses will help Robin having a place of his own.

I love that little house! Hamish can't be in two places at once so hopefully Robin will get to spend some time in there.

Hoom...I thought as much...
Is it best to wait out Hamish' hormonal phase and see if it eases up with age? When I seperated them the other night he seemed very erratic and has before made extremely loud wheeks when I remove Robin from the cage/run...it's almost like he's unhappy to be left alone. But then I'm no expert on guinea pig communication!

Yeh I've ordered a snuggle sack and a tunnel from Pollie as well as this set so that I can rotate things around and always give them options on where to sleep etc. So I hope maybe that will give Robin a chance to find somewhere more comfortable to sleep/rest.

Hamish is definitely not happy being alone. Piggies can get quite upset, especially, as he won't be able to connect his own behaviour with the fact that you are separating him!

PS: would it be an option to build a mezzanine floor with the help of a barbacue grill in order to create more space apart?

I was just thinking that. I've just looked at your fleece pics and the cage looks quite small, so with an extra house in there I'm wondering where they will run around? Would an extra level be possible?

Well I'd been thinking before of using the small cage, removing one end of the bars and putting the two together for one long cage and having some form of ramp to join them both...but sadly never got any chicken wire to do it as the smaller cage isn't as wide and therefore would have gaps.

I don't know if making another level would work or even how to go about it...:{

The pushing two cages together could work but it might be a bit of hassle :) you could get a few of the c&c grids to attach them together so there would be no gaps at the side, however I'm not sure what you could put on the floor for the tiny gap there would be. Depending on your bedding it may be covered by your fleece and whatever is underneath that which would mean you wouldn't need to make extra flooring?

Sorry if that came out like gobbledygook!

There must be a way of doing it that isn't massively complicated. Do you have room to have the two cages in front of each other? Then you could cut a hole in each and fix a tube in so they can run between the two? That would be ace - if it can be done :)

I'll stop creating problems for you now! :x

Haha, nah everything you're suggesting sounds good! Though I am a tad confused by the tube idea - how on earth would I cut into the wire/plastic to put a tunnel? Sounds like it could be a great problem solver but to me that sounds more awkward to do than putting the two cages together :))

Gosh knows...I'll figure something out...hopefully! rolleyes

I'm not too good on the DIY side, I'd just tell my husband to do it and leave him to work out how.

Do the cages have front openings as well as top? You could open them both facing each other, use the c&c grids to form a tunnel between the cages, then just get a piece of wood, carpet etc, for them to walk over ?/ :))

Hahah, yeh I could do the same with my BF if he lived with me, but sadly he's not there for my every whim! Otherwise I'd have him doing a lot more for me :))

The little one opens fully and the big one only has one wee door on the front. That could work...I don't have any C&C bits as I didn't know where to find them cheap at the time I was originally looking. But I could come up with something I'm sure...hoom...well this gives me a more promising project to work on till I start back next week!

I love the house! It's brilliant!

I hope you overcome your issues with the boys. It probably is a space thing and I bet you can come up with something that will work by next week. Good luck with that

But the house is still brilliant! I want one :) :(|)

Thank you!
Yeh I really look forward to getting the set, it looks fabby xx>>>

Well I think I'm gonna work out a way of putting it all together tomorrow...but I need to work out how to make the ramp...hopefully won't be too difficult...

The put together houses are quit annoying too me! Well, when you have 5 sows, jumping around in/out it, it comes apart alot, i would sujest getting them stuck(not exactly stuck!) together, good luck!

They do look pretty good for that price actually!
Since buying a cosy and a tunnel from Pollie plus getting the kit I mentioned at the start of this I don't think the boys need anything else for moment. Keep my pennies saved for art supplies at the moment!
