Well, the piggies new hutch has finally arrived and I have a few questions! I'd like to start keeping the piggies on fleece in their bedroom, but not sure how everyone does it. Is it newspaper, a towel then the fleece! ? And is this suitable for all times of year? Do * have to use any small animal bedding on top of the fleece, for burrowing and warmth or not? I notice some people have what look like cat beds! Do the piggies like these?!

Hi,
I have a mattress protector (absorbant not waterproof) and then the fleece and alternate between that and just towels and the fleece. That's for my indoors C&C. They also have an upper loft with hay in it so they have a place to burrow, but I mainly use fleece.
It's suitable for all time of year.
If they are outdoors then fleece can still work just make sure the urine can't get to the wood below. You can also use newspaper under fleece but tbh I think newspaper gets smelly quicker.
That's the other thing! It hardly ever smells! Only when it's cleaning time.

I haven't tried cozies (the piggy cat beds) with my girls. Mainly because I know they prefer a hidden sort of place, where they can snuggle up in and it's dark and warm. they don't really care so much about lying on top or something. I did at one point have a cat bed in (a small one) and they did snuggle up on it because it was under the hay loft so quite hidden in a way. I only removed it because space was more important to me.

I also have fiddlesticks but they don't really care about them though most people would say their guinea pigs love them. So it might just be mine. They do hide in it though but they don't really chew it. If you browse these forums I'm sure you'll find a heap of info as well as at www.guineapigcages.com which has brilliant ideas for C&C cages! Just read the forums!
