I am seriously thinking about getting a new hutch. The one I have at the moment is a double hutch (both levels are separate) and is 4ft. It has pull out trays which I find really handy for cleaning out, however I have just bought some vetbed which I am going to try for their new bedding ... I'm just wondering if it's neccessary for me to have a pull out tray with this. The thing that concerns me with a wooden bottom (rather than a plastic tray) is that if the wee soaks through it will eventually go rotten. I have found a hutch that I really like... it's 5ft so would give them more space, which I would really love for them, but it doesn't have a pull out tray:

It's the maisonette breeder double hutch on here

I would really appreciate people's opinions on this, and if anyone has experience with using vetbed in a hutch with a wooden bottom - advice on this would be great!

Thanks!

I like that hutch a lot, I considered getting it but they wouldn't make it any bigger than 5ft! It is lovely though, looks well made!

As long as you treat the wood with something that is waterproof but also piggy friendly it should be fine, do this inside and out. It might already be treated though! I also use puppy pads in the bottom of my hutches to soak up any little messes and stop them soaking into the wood because the bottom layer of the puppy pad is impermeable. I wouldn't be too worried about them not having pull out trays, it's very unlikely they will come in useful with the vetbed because you just whip that out and in the washing machine it goes.

:) I've actually just bought a slighty different hutch which is bigger - still 5ft but is 2ft deep. Thanks for the advice - i keep a waterproof cover on my hutch so this should be ok not to be treated? I was going to try newspaper underneath the vetbed for now and see how it goes. Do you think that's a good idea?
