One thing about those type of hutches is, they don't weather very well. So if it will be outside, you should really have a cover on it, so it will last longer :) you can usually buy covers for Trixie hutches. I have one made by a different company, but the same type of wood, and I keep it in the shed away from the elements!

I'm not sure of sizes, but you want at least 4ft for two piggies. Also, some piggies don't do too well with ramps, which is why I prefer single storey, however some are quite good with ramps! If you do decide to get one, you can put sides on the ramp to prevent them falling off the sides, and also putting carpet on the ramp to stop them slipping is a good idea :)

So yeah, that's all!

hiya,

i'm not far from you and have had a hutch for sale for a while now. it's a really nice size but would need some bolts adding, trap door making safer etc, and will need treating.

it has never been used.

here's the thread...

i reduced it down to £90, i didn't know what you wanted tp pay, but i think £90 is a good price for the size.

lea :)p

eta: ramp would need making safer aswell probably.

I like them both and would get as big a hutch as you can :) (I only say this because we have recently upgraded our hutch even though I said I never would ;) )

I like that they can have a run on the grass in these hutches, but you may consider one like this kinda style that's raised up a little? http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/rodents/cages/rabbit_hutches/outback_hutches/99658

Just thinking ahead to Autumn/Winter and it may be a little damp directly on the grass/patio for them and I wouldn't want them to not use the space?

Sure someone who has this style hutch may be able to offer their advice though, as I'm just guessing! ;)

p.s. we have a double 4ft hutch for sale over in Bolton if you're interested? ;)

Where abouts are you? £90 is fine by me and that hutch looks lovely. I will do all the bits to it that need doing. It looks massive, looks like they would love it :))

i'm in middleton.

it's a nice size hutch, just that trap door at the side is flimsy so would definitely need changing, and edging on the ramp to make it safer, and then bolts. i have some bolts here actually, you can have those if you want. and then it needs treating aswell.

let me know if you want to have a look first and then decide. i think we are about 40mins from you?

if you wanted to collect then you would obv need a van. or me and my dad might beable to bring it to you. i'll ask him...

let me know anyway :)

The bigger size of those zooplus hutches would be fine. I have the smaller one (2 of them) but they're not big enough, and I needed to attach an extra big run to the front. Other than that, they're great hutches, well made, strong metal bars, roof opens, easy to clean and everything. The guinea pigs can easily use the ramp, well mine can. :) But you might have to put extra bolts on if the heart shaped catches get loose. And the door to the run part, one of mine came open and a bunny got loose! (but we caught him) so you need to put clips on to keep them closed somehow.

Oh and the ground under the hutches (on concrete for mine) stays dry! We keep the hutch next to a wall so it's a bit sheltered. I wouldn't put the hutch on the grass as I've read in the reviews that they can blow over in the wind. Also the roof can blow open on really windy days, so either put a brick or something on top, or something to keep it closed. We put a screw onto the roof and one in the front of the hutch, and wrapped wire around both, so it stays shut, and I can just unwrap the wire to open it.

If you go for the one with the pull out tray, it'd be that bit easier to clean, for only £10 more. Although the floors are coated with plastic anyway, so easy to clean. :)

The hutch huggers at PAH are dirt cheap, they have been reduced about three times.

My brother has a pick up that we could use. Defo interested...got to ask my bro when he's free (as he works shifts). He also is great at diy so he will do what needs doing to it. I will get in touch with you as soon as I know when he's off for a few days and see if its ok with you x

Had a chat with my hubby, defo want it. My dads gonna do all of the things that need doing to it. He wondered if it would fit into his Zafira, then I won't have to wait for my brother x

i would think you would need a van. i sold one to my uncle which was the same but 4ft and we needed a van for that...

i was going to measure it again but can't find my tape measure! mallethead think it's the inside that measures 5x2, not the outside, so it is very big.

let me know when you want to see it anyway and we can arrange something. :)

Ok I'll have a word with my dad....do you think it would be suitable on the roof rack? He would obv make it extreamly secure (he's very good at it). If not do you think it would go in a pickup?

i wouldn't put it on the roof rack. i don't know what weight they hold, but it took my bf and brother to carry it so it must be quite heavy! i can't lift it anyway, but i am a weakling! :))

not sure about a pick up to be honest... aslong as it is bigger than the hutch then i guess it would be fine.,. :{

the other option is if i bring it to you, but then obv you wouldn't beable to check it beforehand.. and i would need to persuade my dad! :))

I got our hutch from Jolleys and it is 4ftx2ft or even bigger maybe. It stands off the ground and cost £60 approx. The tray at the bottom is removable and you can buy replacements for £7 each. It has rubber feet to stop the wood rottting. It doesn't have a run under it because I don't like the thought of the GP's falling off the ramp and given my trip to the vets today with Titch the stunt guinea pig I am glad I chose this option. We have a smaller run that we put on the garden that was £30 at Jolleys but it is very small so we don't leave them in it too long. And the other bonus is that the top of the hutch also lifts up so it is so easy to clean.

We looked at pets at home and they are so narrow in depth that it wasn't fair on two piggies. I think the deepest was 1.5ft!

The covers for the hutches are £14 I think but not sure as haven't brought one yet because my two come in at night. They are pampered piggiesxoxo
