I made my first hay bag the other day which is a proud moment for me :))

I finally saw Cissy and Tonks using it and thought I'd get a few pictures, but you have to understand that Tonks is a delicate flower and easily spooked.

^ Happily eating hay and modelling the new bag!

^ Think she senses the disturbance in the force...

She's clocked me and she's off! She spooked Cissy and then jumped on her head for good measure :))

Took a bit of tension out of the day!

Great hay bag :yahoo: That hay looks lovely.

Poor Cissy getting trampled :lol!:

My little ones aren't easily spooked but Edna and Eva are terrible and will often sprint across the cage if i move too fast. I must look like an eagle from certain angles

They do love that hay, don't blame them it smells delicious! :D

She carried on eating so I don't think she was too phased :)) It's when poor Bella or Iggy get trampled because they're so small XD

The other girls aren't easily spooked, just Tonks. It's always amusing when it's curtain drawing time, she's always in the same place at that exact time. I swear she does it just so she can run away in fear :))

Very cute pictures. I love the print of the hay bag, very well sewn :)

Thanks! I have to hand sew as my sewing machine is broken so I wasn't sure how it was going to go :))

Picked up the material as scraps from my local haberdashery, got some more for some other bits too. Thought it was a good pattern for them as they are like little elephants :D

It's lovely stuff, it's from timothyhay.co.uk, £22 for a big 9kg bag and it's great for their teeth! Not great bedding hay but fab eating hay. As you can see Bella approves of it :))

Why is not great for bedding? I can pop some in hay bags but I'm also looking for hay now for the large hay area I've added to the cages. The hay I've got is ok but it's started getting very dusty again :(

Well it's quite stalky so it's not very soft, I would also worry about potential hay pokes with it (Cissy likes to burrow under hay). Hence why I wasn't impressed that Bella got in the bag! :))

I buy a cheaper meadow hay for the hay trays and this stuff for their hay bags as it's much better eating hay. Being stalky it helps their teeth better than the soft timothy hay I used before. It's also delicious and full of seed heads too!

If you've got the storage for two types of hay it's a money saver to use the meadow for the floor, my pigs still like to nibble on it for variety (I put forage in there sometimes too) and it's actually more cost effective than using timothy which is generally a bit more expensive than meadow :)

Ah ok, I have Timothy hay now in their hay bags but it's pretty rubbish stuff. Do you get the meadow hay from the same place? Storage isn't a problem so I can order one of each :)

I just keep putting off buying in bulk online as I don't want to end up with naff hay but tbh the last few bags I got from my local pet shop are not nice at all.

I don't know if they do meadow hay actually, I should probably have a look. I get stuff from a pet shop atm but need to look at buying a bit more in bulk.

That's the timothy hay, lovely and green. I always feel confident getting from them :)

That looks so nice. I'm going to order some on Monday :D Can't see meadow hay on there so will have to look out for some better stuff for their bedding.

Fab! Don't forget pics when your gorgeous gang do their taste test! :P

Are there any farms near you? I'm thinking of looking for local hay suppliers for my meadow hay.

There will be photos :D

Annoyingly, yes, we are surrounded by farmland but I don't drive or know anyone with transport willing to help me out :td:

Yay! :yahoo:

No I don't drive either so I find it difficult too. I've been considering meadow or ings hay from this site.

Hay and Straw

But I'm not sure what the quality is like as I haven't tried it myself, I know a few other forum members like it though!

What is the difference between meadow and ings hay?

Think I will order some from there when my current bag runs out :tu:
