Right now I currently have only one lonely piggy named Ruby, but I am looking into adopting her a friend from a local rescue. I have never bonded pigs myself so I am looking for any help I can get. Any advice on picking my new furry friend and/or making sure Ruby and the new pig get along?

Aww she looks so cute! if you go to a rescue most will help you pair her up with a friend. Usually by taking yours to them and introducing one and see how they get on during a short period of time. Sometimes it's easier to pair a much younger one with an older and vice versa but really depends on the personality. As I said a good rescue should be able to help. When you bring them home make sure the cage is thouroughly cleaned out and any items washed so they no longer smell of your piggy. It's an idea to let them have floor space together in a neutral territory (where no piggy has been before) with veggies and hay scattered around for distractions. You can usually tell pretty early if they'll work together. Lots of sqeaking, chasing, rumbling, mounting may occur. Teeth chattering is not a good sign but if it's only for short periods by one it can be ok. Long sustained teeth chattering paired with face offs/lunging for each other usually signifies they won't work together. Good luck, let us know how you get on!

it is great that you are looking for a friend for lovely Ruby! The best place would be to contact North Star Rescue in Pacifica. They are the only good standard guinea pig rescue that is currently active in the Bay area, as far as I know and that would be the best place to find the right companion for Ruby.
