Hi all! I hope everyone’s doing well. My family and I came across two small Guinea Pigs in a box in a store parking lot. We took them home (we already have piggies so we had extra supplies & an extra cage) and we looked them over. One of them has a toe that looks a bit strange as shown in the photo. I don’t know if it was possibly broken at one point or what, but I just wanted to get everyone else’s opinions? Our Vet is closed today so we’re going to call as soon as they open tomorrow to get both a checkup and to get this poor little guy’s toe checked out, but I just wanted to get opinions on what could be wrong with it.

Thanks a bunch in advance!

Not sure what could be wrong with it but hopefully the vet will reveal what may have happened.

Well done for rescuing them! It’s a pity what people will do with unwanted pets. Let us know how you get on.

PS have you been able to keep them in a separate room to your piggies? And are they boars or sows?

Is piggy walking on it normally?

It always astounds me that people can just abandon animals like that. I hope you're at least in a warmer part of the country than me. Good for you for rescuing these little ones.

Haven't got any advice but just wanted to say well done for rescuing them. Its so sad they were dumped.I hope everything goes ok at the vets x

They’re boars and they are separated from all of our other piggies currently in a different part of our house.

Yes, he’s running around and such as well which makes me think it’s possibly an old injury that never healed correctly?

It’s great you’ve taken them in.
It could well be an old injury.
Let us know what the vet says

Good on you for saving them! I rescued three piggies last year dumped in wasteland. How utterly awful and heartless some people are 🤬

Oh well done you guys for taking them in. People are just disgusting. Weirdly we had the same situation here a few months ago. I work in a veterinary hospital and someone found two guinea pigs left in a shoebox in a car park. I don’t know how they didn’t get run over or taken by a fox. Just awful. I agree the toe looks a little funny but It’s good he’s using it fine. I hope the vet can offer more advice.

It’s good if he’s using it as normal. Hopefully it will be nothing. All the best tomorrow and let us know how you get on.

They have landed on their paws so I’m sure they’ll be getting great care from now on 😊

Hello, everyone. Just got back from the Vet. Little man with the toe problem, now named Po, had to get some X-rays done. X-rays came back as no broken bones, but the doctor said there is some pretty noticeable inflammation most likely from a previous injury of some sort so he’s prescribed him an anti-inflammatory and pain medicine. I have to pretty much just keep an eye on it at this point.

Thank you all!

Glad its not broken. Little Po will be glad of your care I’m sure, well done!
