Hi all!

My name is Rosina and I live in Erskine, Scotland. I have been the proud owner of three female pigs for two years now, they are all two years old. They currently live in a C&C cage in my room and have done for quite some time. Sadly, I have developed an allergy to my guinea pigs :0. I first was able to manage this with antihistamine tablets, however the allergy is now starting to effect my asthma. With no spare room to move the cage to, my only option is to move the pigs outside (I would much, much, much prefer this, it is my only option, the other being to re-home them). I am hoping to buy a shed with a window that can open, and I am hoping to insulate it, put lino down, and I am also hoping to install one solar panel on the roof to give me a source of electricity, so that I can heat the shed during the winter months with oil heaters. My boyfriend is also going to build me a hutch to put inside the cage for the pigs to use as a sleeping/hide place. I am going to leave the door of the hutch open and let them run around the floor, with plenty of hay and cosey sacks for the to cuddle up in. I am also going to put three locks on the shed door for extra precautions :).

I am really excited about this, as even though their C&C cage is big, the shed will give them even extra room to run around in, and I may even be able to buy another pig!

My main concern about the whole move is because the pigs have never lived outside before ?/! I know that pigs don't cope well with temperature change, and I'm worried they won't take too well to the change. I am hoping to heat the shed as much as I can. What do people think about this? Does anyone have any advice about this? I am also worried about dampness in the shed? I will have the shed raised off the ground, and I am also hoping to put some lino up the side of the shed too. Thanks,

Rosina :) x

Rosina, I sympathise with you I'm allergic to everything and have asthma as well, that's the main reason why I'm stopping using sawdust. I'm sure somebody will come along and advise you what best :)

I'm allergic to some not others, my main problem was my beautiful Rex Pepper i had to take piriton and use antihistamine cream to handle him. Other than that cats but i cant be near them, and i think i might be a little allergic to my new little hairy hammy!

But, i have never had any of my babies outside so cant help unfortunately.

I dont have outside piggies, but the general advice is that if you are needing to move them outside, it should be done in the summer time when the temperature inside the house wont be that different to the temperature outside :)

Other than that i cant help. Sorry :(
