Hi there my names Leanne I've just got a baby guinea pig he's only about 5 weeks old and the pet shop who sold him to me appatently don't no his sex my opinion of them have gone very down since I bought him. I don't no if he's a boy but we've named him Baxter iam hoping to get him some company when he's more comfortable and maybe I can check to see if he's a "he" or not lol
He's only been with us for 4 days but I get him out every night and he snuggles in my dressing gown with me even caught him taking a snooze tonight is this a good thing?
He's still very skittish around the kids and my husband but I think he likes me :-)
iam hoping I learn loads on here and make some great friends

A good way to tame a pig is to be patient as they have just gone in a new environment. Pet shops are horrible places, i think you should try and rescue next time :)
He seems to be doing fine. You will find lots of information about piglets around here.

Hello and welcome to the forum. If you open up a thread showing pictures of his bits people will be able to sex him for you. Guinea pigs are social animals and need company of their own kind and the best way of getting a friend is by taking him to your nearest rescue were he can choose his own friend as you cannot just put two guinea pigs together and hope they get on. In the meantime this link will help you,

Hi and welcome!

The best way to go about finding the right company of the correct gender would be by dating your little one at one of our recommended piggy savvy good standard rescues once they reopen in the New Year. That way, your Baby can be properly sexed by an experienced person and can find a companion he/she clicks with straight away - that is the key to a happy piggy bond. At this young Age, the Baby is likely to profit from an auntie/uncle figure to help educate and socialise the baby, which also helps to keep the dominance clear cut in the long run.

Here is our recommended rescues locator. All these rescues have a mandatory quarantine and pregnancy watch. As our Forum recommendations re. minimal cage size etc. complies and even surpasses RSPCA recommendations, there shouldn't be any problems with the rehoming process. By going rescue, you also have got a place to fall back if things are not going to plan.
