Hi all.Happy New Year.

So I'm getting Manor Pet Housing to make me a wooden indoor home for 2 separate groups of guinea pigs and I just wanted to know your thoughts re size and suitability if possible.

I'm going to ask for an "L" shaped corner pen which is 2 storeys high. Each pen being 60cms deep and 122cms along each side of the "L" so in theory 244cms in total length each storey but being "L" shaped, that length isn't continuous if you see what I mean. The height of each pen will be 46cms.

I want to put a group of 3 on one storey and a group of 4 on the other.Do you think that sound reasonable? The back and sides of each storey will be wood and the fronts seethru plexiglass (or whatever they call their seethru sheets!)and there will be lots of vent holes.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.x

I don't think the fact that it would be a corner page is an issue - it's still quite a lot of space on a single level and well above the minimum welfare requirements, so I believe the piggies would be comfortable. :)

By the way, I love ManorPetHousing's indoor cages. I admit I haven't seen them in person, but the pictures seem great and you can tint it using Osmo oil or something like that to personalize it (if you fancy a change of design). I'd love to see the end result

Thanks for your reply! I'm glad you think its ok size wise.

I haven't heard of Osmo oil so will be looking into that.

Thankyou again.

I did some math and it's only 11.88 sq.ft.
I'm afraid it's only suitable for two to three pigs on each floor.

Are your pigs males or females?

I believe each floor would be almost 1.47 m2, or 15.8 ft2, unless I'm mistaken? Math isn't my strong side, so I may have gotten lost in the metric units conversions...

Ah yes lissie I understand. One part of the L can be measured as 60cms x 122cms but the other part can only be measured as 60x60 cms otherwise the actual corner is being measured twice. Is that right? If that makes sense!
Math really isn't my stong point at all.

So if I made one side of the L 150cms would that be better?

I was under the impression that each level would consist of two adjacent pens, each 122 x 60 cm (hence one side of the L would be longer than the other). I guess I misunderstood you!

In that case, yes, making one side longer, 150 cm or more, would be best :)

Yes, making one part ofthe L longer would definitely be better.

Or you could make it a diamond shape, but this would make it harder to reach into the corner.

That's a great idea. If they attached wheels to the bottom, @piggles 7000 could slide it around for better access from the back.

If not feasible, could you increase the depth to 70 cm? 10 cm make little difference for you, but would offer more space for the piggies to run around.

Really lovely idea re thediamond shape but will have to run it past OH!
I could certainly increase the width, and I love the wheels idea too.I will think about all this today and see what MPH will do for me.Thankyou very much again for the input.Really helpful and Ive avoided making big (expensive) mistakes too!
