Hello!

My sister got me a guinea pig for my birthday and I brought my new little Honey home last night. I know that guinea pigs do better in pairs, but I was wondering: Should I find her a companion asap or let her adjust to her new life here first and introduce another guinea pig in a little while? I don't want to stress her out anymore than she has been the past day or so (although she seems to be a lot better today!)

Thanks!

Brooke

Hi Brooke,

Welcome to the forum :))

Do you have any rescue organisations near you in Iowa that you could adopt a piggie friend for Honey from? She would definitely love some company and I think as soon as you can but don't just go out and buy one for the sake of it. A rescue organisation may be able to pair Honey up with a friend that she gets on well with, either a fellow sow or a neutered boar.

Honey will be very nervous at first having just got home. The best thing you can do is to leave her to settle in without too much disturbing. Get her used to sounds and when she gets her veg / fresh hay / food. Sit by the cage giving her goodies and talking calmly to her and she'll gradually feel alot better about things.

Let us know how you get on and pigtures of her would be lovely drool

xx

I ended up going back to where I got Honey and picked up one of her sisters! Honey and Lumen = reunited! <3 There's lots of purrs and chirps coming from those two!

Good idea! I bet that both girls are ever so happy at being reunited!

I'm looking forward to pics!
