Hi sorry posted to many things just curious I have a plastic ice cream container in my hutch and the guinea pigs are starting to nibble on it what do I do

Remove the container. Any soft plastic they can chew pieces off of has the ability to cause issues.

They need to chew on hay. Not only does it need to make up their main food source, it also ensures their teeth wear down properly.
You can buy wooden toys but most piggies will ignore them.

Cardboard boxes are a nice and cheap hide for them. Make sure any sellotape has been removed.

The will chew on it and it can help them if they have poorly tummy but hay is the most important thing for them to chew on. Its their food source but also If they don’t chew hay, then their teeth will overgrow and that causes all sorts of problems

What happens if their teeth overgrow

They won’t be able to eat, will lose weight and will become very poorly. Expensive and repeated dental work will be needed to fix problems. It is a very serious issue for them.
But hay is their main food source so without hay they will be very hungry and will fill up on unhealthy foods such as pellets. Pellets need to be kept strictly limited and they need to eat a lot of hay

Cardboard isn’t a food source and it won’t help with anything. It’s just toy for them to play in which they are able to chew without causing them illness
Hay and grass the only thing that is going to help keep teeth worn down and be their food source

Not wanting to repeat myself
Pls read the guides that are free on this forum.
NO CARDBOARD IS NOT A FOOD AND NOT GREAT FOR PIGGIES TEETH.
yes piggies may nibble it but hay is their food fresh Hay everyday .
Plastic can't be digest and will kill if eaten.

You need to go to your local PAH and buy them some hay today (don’t mean to shout). If they go for prolonged periods without hay you will be setting yourself up for a big spend on vet bills.

You also need to change their bedding. It looks you are using straw. Newspapers will do at a pinch, but you have to change them daily. You can buy some snowflake shavings from PAH. Carefresh is also another one you can use, as well as biocatolet which is a cat litter.

A lot of people on here order their hay online. Timothyhay.co.uk - Supplying the UK with Quailty Timothy hay or Hay Box - Premium Quality Hay Direct from Farm | Perfect for Rabbits

Have you managed to buy them some hay?

I think I got you muddled up with someone else. Were your guinea pigs from a rescue? Please add your location (country suffices) to your profile so we can better help you.

That’s good to hear. Have they been munching on it then? And did you change out the straw for different bedding?
