I was wondering, I'm still trying to undestand my pigs. I rescued a young bore, rusty, and have now gone to a rescue center and got a baby bore called domino to be his friend. Rusty seems to be protecting domino from us, but i'm not quiet sure. He seems to make that low grumbling machine gun noise when we are around and if we try to pick up domino he stands over him. Firstly i thought he might not like him but now i'm not sure. I 've been looking for signs of aggression but am not sure if its love and protection that rusty is showing or aggression. any ideas?

pick on the dyslexic lol, but further to that point I'm still watching the new ones. its slightly scary because I'm new to this, mo mo and squeaky my other two are two brothers and have always been together, but rusty and domino, i just don't know if it is love or hate. i guess I'm thinking if i see any really fight or cuts to split them up and so far there has been none of that but the dominance stuff worries me because i want the both to be happy.

I don't think anyone can tell you if your boys are happy- only you are there with them :) But lots of boars do live happily together for their whole life. I don't like keeping any together if there is even a small issue, but I have a good vet/surgeon that can castrate them :)

Perhaps wait till they are adult (12 months) and then make a decision :) They need time to sort themselves out a bit :)

thanks for that, i did split them up for a bittonight to see if the baby needed some space on its own, but they just seemed to look for each other. the baby is growing fast and seems to be eating well, which makes me think that maybe rusty isn't bullying him to much, if at all. its just that weird grumbling sound that rusty makes a lot that makes me worried.

I would leave well enough alone. Timmy did this when I got Sunny as a baby to be his friend, he wouldnt let us near him! 4 months on, they are happy but still rumble sometimes, all my boys do it :)

my boy snowy rumbles at archie but he s just having a moan as archie wants to snuggle up to him all the time ::)

If your piggies starts chattering thats when you need to be on guard O0
