4 year old Tigger died approx 3 weeks ago after a long and unidentified illness, leaving poor 3 year old snuffles alone . She is getting loads of extra attention from everyone and seems to be coping well, eating well etc after going off her food for the first 3 days or so. She seems a bit quieter than before tho and we are thinking it would be kinder to get her a similarly aged sow or neutered boar for company. What is the best way to go about this as we don,t want to end up adopting a piggy she does,t get on with?

I am very sorry for your loss; you are welcome to post a tribute to Tigger in our Rainbow Bridge section!

There are sadly not many good rescues in Scotland. The only one we can recommend full-heartedly is Hutches in Alyth, past Stirling. If you could make it a day out for you and Snuffles for a dating trip, this would be the safest way of re-bonding her under expert supervision. This will take in character compatibility and you are guaranteed a healthy and not pregnant companion. You also come home with a new piggy only if there has been success, so you do not have to worry about ending up with two piggies that don't get on!

I have gone down this route several times with bereaved sows of mine of comparable age and always had a very loving new relationship out of it, whether it was with another sow or a neutered boar. Age is not as relevant as mutual liking, by the way!

Best of luck!

Thank you for your advice . I will give the rescue a call to arrange a blind date for Snuffles!

We are also very sorry to hear of your loss of Tigger, Run free little one..

Although it is a distance from you, we also would recommend Hutches rescue. Joanne is an expert at matching piggies. We are bias though as we have adopted 3 piggies from Hutches, Ouzo (neutered boar ) and 2 of his wifepigs Morgan & Tia. Morgan on the left and Ouzo on the right of our avatar..

It would be also be a good idea to drop Joanne an email as sometimes she can be very busy.. Good luck in finding a friend for Snuffles..

Lisa & Ali..
