This is the plan for the new enclosure for my two boys which my other half is building (we're not doing a loft straight away), they'll have 21 square feet as the overall length has changed to 7ft.

They're going to have a hay area separate from the fleece area. What could I use as bedding in there other than shavings? I find shavings so messy and it just gets everywhere. What are some other options (I'm in the UK).

I use aubious bedding - it's really absorbent and the wee goes to the bottom of the bedding and is absorbed from there so the top stays dry much longer. It does kinda get everywhere but I think it's pretty easy to sweep - at least it is from my carpet!

It does only come in 20kg bales though as it is a horse bedding!

Thank you, I've just found a local stockist so will check them out tomorrow. Would I still put newspaper under the aubious?

Yes I always put newspaper under shaving or aubiose etc as it is easier to clean it out. You can just roll the newspaper up to get rid of most of the mess.

I use puppy pads under any bedding, ecobed at present,i do not read newspapers and it seems to be a dyeing hobby, apparently more people read papers on a electronic devise eg tablet,so unable to source newspapers, but the disposable pads work well with a bedding on top.love your plans for a hay loft.:)

Thank you, the hay room will be on the same level but there'll be a divide with a little door cut out of it. The loft was just going to be some extra space for them but we'll do that at a later date I think.

I just get the free newspapers that they have in supermarkets, they are usually advertising ones. I just grab a handful at a time

Hehe I get my newspapers from my OH's parents - they buy two or three per day!

I don't put newspaper under the aubiose but all 'high traffic' areas have trays under them so I can just top out the whole tray. I use newspaper for their 'weekend pen' and it's soooo easy just rolling up all the poop and hay in a big newpaper sausage!
