Hi Everyone,

I’m after a bit of advice I have recently bought my 5yr old piggy a new double cage, she’s always been in a big single before. But she is refusing to go upstairs. Any ideas on how I can get her to go up? I have trying putting her upstairs & leaving her food downstairs but that didn’t work. I got it her so she would have more space but since she won’t go upstairs she now has less due to the ramp.

Some piggies are fine with ramps, others just don’t like them. I would put her back in her single cage, so she doesn’t get too stressed unless you are handy and can add sides to the ramp and cover with carpet? These ramps are often at a very steep angle? If yours is then perhaps you could place a block of wood at the bottom so it’s less steep x
Does she have a companion who will teach her how to use it?

Welcome to the forum.
I had a double cage at one point but only 1 of the piggies would use the ramp.
They’re not natural climbers.
I switched to a c&c cage and they were much happier.
Please can we see pictures.
Do you have a lone piggy or does she have a companion?

Thanks for replying. I can’t put her back in the single cage as it is damaged & not safe. She was in with her sister but she sadly passed away. I have attached a picture. Good idea about adding sides, i’ll ask my dad he can have a go. It is quite steep 😬

Hi.. that ramp looks quite steep to me.. plus if she has never used one - she might not know how... hope you can modify it! Mine don't use their ramp much but it's not that steep...good luck

I’ve found that older pigs are less likely to be adventurous - none of my older ones would use a ramp but the youngsters had no problem.

We have 6 piggies in a C&C cage with a small loft and only 3 have ever ventured up there, my 2 older ladies and one of the younger ones have never even bothered trying, and our ramp is not steep and has sides and a grippy floor... some pigs just dont do ramps!

I think I meant just take the ramp out for now. Thanks everyone for replying 😁

When my piggies had a loft on their c and c cage I lowered the loft to make the ramp even less steep. They'd never have gone up a ramp as steep as in your photo. If you can put up with the 2mm correx from Wickes and get cheap grids, a c and c cage would work well.
