Following on from the thread I posted last week asking if anyone had any suggestions on how we can improve our boys setup on a limited budget, today we have had a very busy day creating a "new" cage for our boys.

I say "new" because we haven't actually bought anything new, apart from a couple of tray's for the hay and a set of play sticks everything else is things we already had and the actual cage is made from the old run and dismantled cage top. We didn't have any money to spend as things are tight at the moment but I wanted more space for my growing hormonal boys.

We have gone from this:

I hope nobody minds, but we have borrowed ideas from what I have seen on photo's on here.

What do you think? I know its a bit of a mis match but do you think its ok?
I have put the boys in and they were a bit wary at first but they are starting to explore a little now, I hope that they will like it. It's 5ft long at its longest point and is 4ft wide.

I love it! I think it looks fab, well done you! :))

Do they stay in it all day and dont go in the cage anymore?

Yes they will stay in it all the time now apart from when we're cleaning them out or if they're out for floor time in the living room with us. I figure, it's sort of like a C&C but not C&C if that makes sense?

Thats the same as mine, I got old shelf things, which is bars, don't know how they made a cupboard from it, but it came in handy for my cage :)

That looks fab they have a great a mount of room and things to amuse themselves.

One wee thing though is that a real fire? if so just incase you aren't aware and are using fleece it is quite flammable I believe, just call me a worry wart.

Modwyn- it is a real fire yes but we never use it, in fact we tried to use it when we first moved in but the gas tap to turn it on is that bloomin stiff we can't turn it, so the fire just sits there looking pretty so no fire risk. (It doesn't even look pretty that often as we tend to hang a thick blanket over it in winter as it's drafty! lol)

Daleksarah- If you look in my first picture, you will see we had a shop bought cage on a table and a metal run underneath it. We basically dismantled both of these and re-used them to build the new setup, we wanted to buy C&C panels and correx but we can't afford it right now so this is the next best thing. We have kept the red tray from the shop brought cage so if we need to re-build it at any point then we can do.

Thank you for all the compliments everyone, the more I look at it- the happier I am with it. Me and my OH (his name is Pete by the way as I'm fed up of keep writing OH and my partner) have spend most of the evening sitting staring at it and the boys too of course. They seem to be settling in well, although they don't seemed to have grasped that they need to walk up the playstix to get into the hay trays, they just put their front feet up on the edges and lean in for a nibble.

Hehe. It took my boy a few days to figure out he could actually get IN the hay tray, not just uncomfortably lean into it.... They'll get there eventually!

Thanks, I hope so. My boys aren't the brightest bulbs in the box, bless them! :))

It was the pictures of your cage that I took lots of ideas from for the new setup, I hope you don't mind:red

You and Pete have done a grand job! I'm sure your boys will be zooming around all that extra space in no time (if they're anything like our Pixel anyway! :)) )

Looks fab! :)

Brilliant! I love the material over the corners! Hope you don't mind but I might do that for mine (they'd probably jump on top of it)
Your piggys must be very happy!:)):))
