Hi,
I have two piggies that are at the moment in a 100cm pet shop cage attached to a very large play pen which they always have access to so they have plenty of space. This set up has worked well for over six months. However a year ago I was diagnosed with scoliosis which basically means my spine is curved and I therefore get a lot of discomfort. Recently cleaning out the cage has become a nightmare because the pet shop cage has a roof which I can't remove. I have no problem with their mess or anything like that but I find it very difficult to be crouched over for long periods of time so cleaning them out is a really horrible experience. It has got to the stage where the cage has to change or might not be able to keep my guinea pigs, it is not fair on them to have to be in a cage that I can't properly clean. I love my boys to pieces and it would break my heart to give them up but I want to make sure they are getting the best care possible.

I have been thinking of getting a new cage without a roof or with a roof that easily lifts up. I have looked into the Midwest guinea habitat and Midwest guinea habitat plus. I was wondering if anyone has this cage and could give me some more info on it. I'd love to know whether it is any good, the exact measurements and the difference between the habitat and habitat plus. I'm thinking of adding a second floor, has anyone ever been successful with that? Also if anyone has any other ideas for cages (especially if they are cheaper than the slightly pricey Midwest) I'd love to hear. I have thought about a c&c cage but the supplies seem tricky to get.

Thank you so much for reading the above I know it's a bit long winded but I really want to sort things out so me and my guinea pigs can be happy.

I have the Midwest Guinea cage basic edition. I'm not sure where you're looking but in my area it was by far the cheapest cage option (aside from a C&C that I would've been useless in making due to some motor skill issues). I use a layer of newspaper or towels and then fleece as bedding. I find it's incredibly easy to clean the only pain is when I have to totally remove the liner to hose it down and somehow my piggies manage to get some poos and hay etc to go into the tiny little pockets between the bars and the lining so it does get messy especially under their water bottle, I've no idea why but my boys like to do their business under their water bottles which do drip a bit and this makes for wet messy piggy poos. It's easy to assemble/disassemble and the open top sounds perfect for you. I think it's a great cage and my boys love it

I just ordered the plus. As I can see and have heard it is very similar to having a c&c cage but the bars are closer together. The plus has a lid, each half can be lifted once at a time or the whole top comes right off to clean. I have a c&c right now but we just had babies and I don't want them getting out or my cat getting in.

Thank you both so much I think I will go ahead and order it. I thought it was a little expensive at the time because the cage I originally brought was quite cheap but actually I think it might have been in the sale and it's rubbish so should have been that price! Good luck with the babies Cassybaby89!

THANK YOU! So far so good, one escape but re-caught easily and all happy and healthy. Baby piggy popcorns are too cute!

That sounds adorable! I have a friend that ended up with two litters at the same time and they were so cute.
