Hi all,

I thought I could come back to the people who know best...

We will be introducing Mali and Aspen in the next few weeks, as they both have their own cages we though it would be best if nothing was 'his' or 'hers' to make the transition as easy as possible.

So here is the dilemma of a new cage - Hubby and I cant decide... so we leave it to you the experts

Cage one

http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/rabbit_cage/120_cm_cages/95868

Cage 2

http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/small_pets/hutches_cages/rabbit_cage/120_cm_cages/14083

Or if there is any better on the market let me know - (Hubby doesn't like C&C Cages though)!
As both have never lived with anyone else, I want the best for them.

Looking forward to hearing your recommendations :)

Thanks as always you lovely lot x x x

if you don't like c&c cages, have you looked at the midwest cage? that's what I'm using at the minute because I didn't have the space for a c&c cage when I moved. I know some people don't really rate them much but I've never had any problems with mine, you can extend them as well by adding another on the side to make the cage bigger and can buy dividers for kitchen areas etc.and you can also buy lids for them if you have cats or anything! the bottom is made out of a canvas type material, which isn't great as I'd prefer a solid bottom, but you could probably reinforce it if you didn't like how soft it is. The canvas material is pretty easy to clean though. just an idea :) x

Oooh that looks good - He's new to Guinea Pigs (and all small animals really) so I don't think he has ever seen a C &C Cage before so he thinks it's a bit strange.

He is just going off what he has seen in the pet shops :)

I have the second cage and have no problems with it, it's well made & easy to get into with the front being two separate doors. I got it from zooplus too, was well packaged & fast delivery, easy to put together as well :)
I looked at that first cage when choosing mine but couldn't see much difference apart from it looking a bit fancier?! lol

I would go for the one with the flat top (or the cheaper version sold at Little Pet Warehouse online- their own brand 120 cm cage is stronger and bigger than a ferplast 120 and its only £40.00!)

if they are boys the 120 will be too small. There is one in littlepetwarehouse that is 1meter square that people are raving about.dont know about the midwest. How big are their current cages? You may be able to sell them on but i would make sure they are fully bonded before you get rid of both.

Mali is a boy (my avatar) and Aspen is a girl. Mali's is cage is about 3ft by 1.7ft and Aspen's cage is 3ft by 1ft. Id like them to have a bigger cage as Mali is a large piggy. They are not yet bonded as Mali is only 3 weeks post op from his neutering. So I'd like them to have enough room as possible x

Loving all your advice!

that midewest cage is a really cool alternative, have you tried showing him that C&C cages can have lids like in this picture? http://www.pocketpetcages.com/uploads/9/3/1/9/9319784/5750641_orig.jpg
C&C is really good fun show him all the creative ideas and ways you can design it he may get curious and then you will be able to make it as big as you like if you can convince him.
out of the two you have suggest i love the first one myself but thats because i like purdy things hehe

I should have said when Mali was a baby he had a bad cold so now as an adult he needs to be kept off the floor to avoid getting another URI ( the vet has told us this BTW) X

C&C cages are easily made on a stand so they are not floor level - another positive :)

plus costco have been doing the C&C grids super cheap recently

My cages are put together with cable ties as mine are on the floor.I sit in my cages to clean. The c&c cages with connectors do look a lot neater and as previously said you can make a stand. The one shown above looks great to me and wouldn't take much to make a stand.

I'd suggest whatever type of cage you go for get one bigger than the 120 or get a double layer 120. Even though the 120 is the minimum recommended size having had two pigs in one I feel there really isn't a lot of space for them particularly once you've got hideys and things in there.

I've got the one in your second link and think it's great - and I have it on a coffee table (very secure).

If you have the space the square 100cm cage has a fab amount of space. Cant remember who sells it ill go look for a link....

here it is (i'm on my laptop Briony_S lol) http://www.littlepetwarehouse.co.uk/indoor-square-cage-rabbit-guinea-little-friends-p-16632.html

It is huge! I got one from ebay but ended up returning it because it was damaged, the seller wasn't very helpful at all so if you have the space and you go for this one, I'd get it from little pet warehouse just because it was such a faff trying to get any response from ebay! :hb: that's how I ended up with my ferplast, because I just went for a completely difference cage & website as I didn't want to risk being sent another damaged one haha :tu: x

I like the Midwest cage especially since you can extend it. It's really up to you though! It should also be really easy to clean too :)

I like the Midwest cageit brand new especially since you can extend it. It's reato you though! It should also be reality easy to clean too :)
I must admit I have a midwest which sits ontop of my c&c tower block I got It brand new off ebay it cost me about £13 if i remember correctly as box was damaged. I love It! Also if you only want the sides and base it is only about £30 it is easily bigger than other 120 cages as i tried to put in ontop of my nero4 but it was too big

If I had to choose either I would choose the Ferplast Rabbit & Guinea Pig Cage 120.

The biggest reason for this is that you have two large front doors on the cage, which will be a very handy feature if your guinea pigs are hard to catch. And it will make cleaning easier.

The cages with only one tiny front door are clearly designed for contortionists because you need to contort you body into all sorts of angles to reach towards the back of the cage...

If I had to choose out of the two, I too would go for the ferplast 120.

I have the ferplast 120 myself but the two tiered version and I have 3 piggies in there.

It's sturdy, good quality and the opening front is a definite bonus for the reasons listed by piggielove.

Hi,

I was debating with my other half about cages and he was not too impressed by C&C cages either. So I was going through many threads here and found these two:
Rabbit 120 x 59 x 50 Large Indoor Rabbit & Guinea Pig Cage from Little Pet Warehouse
and
Ferplast Rabbit & Guinea Pig Cage 120 from Zooplus

We don't have any preferences of the piggies gender (we are going to rescue) and we are not rushing anywhere as we want to give piggies as best as we can. We need quite a sturdy home because of our another furry kid (dog). Piggies will live in my studio room, where I spent fairly amount of time and the dog is not allowed, but we just want make sure piggies are safe at all the time.

Thank you in advance for advice and opinions x

Hey,

I think both look like very sturdy cages.

I went for this one in the end - http://www.deemillen.co.uk/rabbit-d....html?osCsid=8c99c1433adadba82274dd859496f9a3

It's VERY big but my two piggy's love it.

My mum bought the cage on your second link as my piggy's go down to her when I go on holiday. Its very safe and sturdy but they do look a bit cramped and they cant run around.

If you could stretch to a slightly bigger cage like this one - http://www.littlepetwarehouse.co.uk...p-16531.html?gclid=COS6h_um9L0CFWkJwwodTGIAZQ

Its definitely worth it!

There are a few 130cm cages available too if that ones too big x x
