Hey :)

Upgrading our piggies from the rabbit 120 store bought cage into a c&c cage, and picking up extra grids tomorrow..

However, a small few look to have rust spots on them. I know I could just use them carefully hidden under the correx, but would rather treat them and repaint them all red...

Is it really a good / safe idea, or is it best to just not use the rust spotted ones.

Thank you :)

You could just sand them down so they are smooth and coat them with something non toxic to prevent it spreading. There are lots of natural rust removal treatments if you look online. I would just make sure whatever you coat them with is non toxic if you have chewers!

Where abouts are you setting up their cage? I'm assuming it's on some sort of surface. You shouldn't need grids for underneath, just simply the sides to make a frame then sit your correx with sides folded up into the middle of the frame.

I have an 2x8 cc split into 2 2x4 for my 2 pairs (would love to have all four in the 2x8 but my two oldies are happy together, the bossy one takes care of my old fudge and she wouldn't welcome any new sisters!). I have a long thick sheet of wood fixed solid onto the length of the wall with my correx on top. I now only have my grids along the front and as a divider, which have been screwed into the wall using little clips. It's easy enough to take down when I move, and leaves me a hay corner underneath as well as a carpeted floor time area!

For now they are kept on an old coffee table in their cage so they are off the floor.
Until I get all the bits for inside the new cage, the c&c grids will be used as the boundaries for floor time. (Under side of settee has a hole)
Not yet decided on how it will be setup when ready to move them into a c&c cage, I'd be avoiding floor level because draft though.
