Just been to the orthodontist xx0
Coming here to you lovely people :smitten: for sympathy :-\

I just got my traintracks taken off, and now have a retainer . I HATE IT. :o
I can't speak properly, or eat without taking it out. My mouth feels soo odd. and I'm slobbering its INSANE.

I don't know how people can live with these :embarassed:

I can take it out tho >:D but I wont cos i want streight teeth ;D 0:)

Yuck :(

No experience of any of this but sounds horrible.
Sympathy on the way to you xx

not sure, but definatly not as long as my traintracks ? I had those for TWO YEARS :tickedoff:

Oh. My. God. I feel your pain. :-* i had a retainer for a year and a half. the wires destroyed the roof of my mouth and the retainer smelt AWFUL :P . i was soooooooooooooo glad to see the back of it. (((hugs))) :)

It does get better, I can't remember how long I had mine for though - about a year I think? Make sure you clean it regularly though as food gets stuck in and around it and you dont want bad breath! Once you get used to it you'll be able to talk fine and eat ok too apart from maybe chewing gum etc.. Thinking of you :)

Hey :) I'm getting my traintracks PUT ON in July :) I'm so excited! VEeryone think I'm mad for wanting them though ::)
I have tohave head gear too >:( Not cool! lol and then I need a retainer :)

Good luck with talking and slobbering ;D

I have no idea... I'm going back in like 2 months I think and he will show me then :( Lucky I dont go out much ;D I have to wear it 14 hours per day! but at least ill have straight teeth ;D

carrie anne got another year clear at the hospital yesterday with her teeth thank goodness he said he is hoping she grows into her teeth ( sounds a wierd way of doing things) but anyway she still does not need any removed or braces etc, relief all round she had a major moody on yesterday through worrying about it,

Am i crazy but i would do anything to have braces LOL

Hehe I'm with you ;D I couldnt believe it when he said 3 months! Its like get off your butt and do it today! ;D

You'll be surprised, it wont take long before you get used to it :)
All three of my kids have had braces then retainers. Our orthodontist has advised you wear the retainer 24/7 forever :o Dee has been the best at wearing hers, she wore it for at least two years full time after the braces came off. Now she wears it at night time only and her teeth are still lovely and straight O0

Wow! forever ?

When I get mine I think I have it for 2years and wear it like 14 hours a day... or maybe thats my head gear ;D

Hehe my brother has bugs-bunny teeth like me but dad says he never needed braces when he really did! lol

I had retainers that you tightened, then I had train tracks for about 2years, then they were taken off ready for me to have my operation (to breask my jaw and move it forwards) so I had retainers to keep the teeth in place until the op. Well, I never wore them and havent been back since and havent had my op!
That was 4years ago and I am starting to regret it...my jaw hurts like hell whenever I eat/clean my teeth etc and I am as goofy as ever! So please dont any of you be as silly as me...as horrble as they are, its worth it!
I dont know if I'd be able to go back now...and if I did, its likely I'd have to pay (now I'm 20) and I really coulsnt afford it :(

Well Peppapunk I need all the tips you can give me for retainers because my train tracks should be off very soon fingers crossed. Is the retainer as shocking as when you first get a brace fixed? At least you can take it out to clean your teeth! I'm so looking forward to having naked teeth ;D I did want them off before my next birthday because it is the last on in my 20's but hey, at least my teeth will be ace on my 30th birthday pics!

It doesnt hurt as much as having traintracks first put on, its just the plastic bit thats a bit weird to start with. I advise you to take it out while you eat, my orthodontist told me to keep it in to eat but i just cant!

The first time I cleaned my teeth PROPERLY for two blooming years... its SUCH a releif =] I hated my traintracks but with a retainer its lovely cos you can take it out if it gets nasty or to clean your teeth.

I can talk now =D

Oh no Deb! Thats terrible! The first thing my mum said when we saw the orthodontist was do anything you want... just dont break her jaw! when my aunty was little she had braces... they wanted to break her jaw too... but she didnt want to.. after she got the train-tracks taken off she didnt have a retainer so it all popped back to normal!
