As most of you already know, Poppet has been going back and forth to the vets for over a year now with dental problems and Nicky, the veterinary assistant, holds her while Simon does her teeth.

Nicky and I have recently become friends and last Friday she came round to my house. She was really looking forward to meeting all my piggies. Poppet loves running around the lounge and isn't at all shy about meeting new people. Niki can vouch for this as she's met her a few times. Also Kitty (kittyla) off this forum came round to my house with her two sons and two other little girls, and again Pops came dashing out to meet them all. Anyway when Nicky was here I opened the cage and Poppet immediately came dashing over ready to jump out. She stood up ready to jump and then stared at Nicky. She looked and looked and then started to chatter her teeth. There is no doubt she recognised Nicky and was probably thinking she's the woman who wraps me up tightly in a towel. There was no way she was going to come out of her cage! We went outside to the piggy shed so Nicky could meet all the others and by the time we came back in Pops was out!

Both Nicky and I are absolutely sure that Pops knew exactly who she was, even though she wasn't seeing her where she is used to seeing her. She's definitely one very clever little girl!

Oh poor girl, she must have thought she was getting a home visit! :))

They definitely do recognise people. My over the top pigs are a lot more shy and retiring if someone new is around! And one of my pigs chatters at me (he hates me since I had to sort out a cyst) but not at anyone else - how ungrateful!

That's hilarious! What a clever guinea pig. Well done pops, your face recognition is dead on. How did Nikky take it though?

My guinea pigs used to recognise the sound of my Mums voice. They knew she would have a treat for them as she always brought something with her like dandelions. They would all start wheeking and standing up at the front of the hutch when she went into their shed. She didn't need to have the treat with her so it wasn't that they smelt it but they would all run out as soon as she spoke to them. They never do that to anyone else except me.

haha pops is such a funny girl, the vets/nurses always seem to bother the furries, and i do believe they know who they are,When Boris was ill he chattered and tried to bite all vets but when handed back to me would snuggle and purr,i actually find it good because then you really know how much they love there mummys:))

Poor Nicky was really upset! She's so fond of Pops, in fact all the staff at the vets love her! Nicky is also a guinea pig person and has 40 plus so she was so excited about coming to meet all mine and feels awful that Pops clearly associates her with getting her teeth done. She gave Pops lots of cuddles though so hopefully that will help.

We were at the vets last night to get her teeth done and by the time we got there Pops had wrapped herself up in her blanket so no-one could see her. When the receptionist saw this she immediately took the pet carrier out the back so Nicky could see what she had done!

However for some reason Pops really loves uncle Simon, even though he is the one who does the work on her teeth, and lets him tickle her ears. I'm not allowed to touch them and would get headbutted out the way!

They are not stupid at all! Annybody who thinks guinea pigs have no memory or can't recognise people is so wrong!

My Minx used to sit right out in the open in her hospital cage, or even jump on top of her hut in the vet's waiting room (much to the delight of all the nurses!). But the moment she heard Carol's voice, who had operated on her, even through the door, Minx would make a dive back into the hut! It happened several months after her operation and after she'd be seen by all the other vets in the centre!

OH Pops Possum, please be nice to Auntie Nicky :)
Debbie try the trick i said of having food for Nicky to give her next time, and also at the vets as well :)

I love the thought of her all wrapped up in her blankie tho x)x)x)

Poppet is a little pickle! I love her ... I bet that was funny to watch!
