our piggies feel when they lose a mate.

Last Monday Goggles lost his mate Snap. Goggles had been quite poorly and had only recently started to put on some weight again. However as soon as he was on his own the weight started to fall off him again. He lost all interest in everything and stood in corner of cage all day. It was as though he had completely given up on life. I've been so worried about him.

Yesterday I drove down to Hertfordshire to collect him a new little friend to love. I can't believe the instant change in him. On Friday he weighed 923g and this morning he was 978g. He hasn't stopped eating since his little mate arrived. We just need to decide on a name for him now. Thank you Nikki for letting me have this special little man, he has made Goggles so happy already.

Aww thats great he has started eating again. Hope he continues to pick up. x

good luck goggles

am so happy for goggles that he has a little friend x)x)x) so glad he is eating and putting on weight again.
hope to see pictures when no name settles in. i am sure snap is looking down on you and goggles and is smiling. i wouldn't be surprised if snap didn't have a paw in finding his mate goggles a friendxx>>>xx>>>xx>>>
good luck to goggles and no name.

Aww glad they are getting on well that is great to hear. Thats good goggles is happy. Let me know when you decide on a name and look forward to seeing pictures of him as he grows up. xx

Oh don't worry, you will be seeing lots and lots of pics of him as he grows up. They are so funny together. He copies everything Goggles does. Not sure Goggles is really the best role model but hey, as long as they are both happy then that's all that matters. x

It gets better and better. Goggles is eating non stop. Everytime he sees me he is shouting for more food. He had eaten so little since he became ill around mid May. Since his friend arrived its as though life is for living once more. I can't stop smiling!

Lovely story .... so pleased to hear about Goggles and his new friend. Well done you for finding him a new partner to bond with.
Sorry though to read about Snap!
Look forward to seeing the promised photos!

Aww, so pleased to hear Goggles has improved. :)

So pleased your piggy is better, they really do need their own kind around them.

The most depressed pig I have ever had here was one who had lived on her own. She was even too depressed to bother hiding - it was heartbreaking to watch, she was just so muserable and so sad.

I disobeyed all my own isolation rules and put her in with another sow and within 5 minutes she was as though someone has switched a light on. Her head went up, she was eating, even had a little run around and has never looked back. Fortunately for me she wasn't ill, it was a risky strategy but thankfully one that paid off.

When piggies are happy their mums and dads are happy too !

That was exactly how it was with Goggles too. I couldn't believe the transformation. His weight is still steadily rising and he looks better than he has for months. I wonder if he realised Snap was so poorly and if thats why he just cuddled him all the time. I really thought it was because Goggles was still feeling really unwell.

The new little man now has a name. He is to be called Star! I will be posting pics over the weekend of the two new best mates and explaining why he is called Star.

Aww I like the name can't wait to hear the explanation. Just off on my hols now so I guess i'll have to wait. xx

Have a fantastic time! See you soon x

Will email you lots of pics of the boys together. Goggles has put lots of weight on this week. I am sooooooooo plesed! x

You know i'm chuffed to bits for Goggles & for you - he's been such a worry. Aww Star, he will never know what he's done & i love the reason why he has his name x)

I too have experienced the grief they go thru' with Maddie, after Albie died she became half the pig she was, not in size in personality. Feisty Maddie who would nip & chase everyone let herself be nipped & bullied, not once did she retaliate, she just sat in one place, staring sadly out of the hutch.
She now lives alone but is next door to Lolly & Looby where she can see them & chat to them but they can't hurt her. :)

I can imagin why you called him star, that's a fantastic name for a piggie who is already a true star in every sense of the word. I'm happy Google's on the mend, good job! x

I'm so pleased Pip is happy again too! There is obviously something very special about their new little friends!

Yes i think they are both very special piggies. It is so funny watching them run and popcorn around the yard and there so sneaky yesterday when they were both out and harley my bunny was out they keeped sneaking in to harleys hutch to nick his hay and food and if 1 can't see the other they just squeek there heads of till the other comes back in sight :))

Aww, that's such a lovely story. That's why it breaks my heart to hear of boars stuck in a hutch on their own at the bottom of the garden.

Thats wonderful news about Goggles...would love some pics of the happy pair drool

Will definitely posts pics over the weekend.

Have just taken Goggles out to weigh him. They both got very upset at being separated and were shouting loudly for one another. Goggles now weighs over a kilo which is a great improvement from the 923g he was this time last week. I can't stop smiling!
