So it looks as though I'll become the forever home for a nice young man at the end of the month and I have some questions.

Firstly, I've read that they can still produce boar glue, much to my disgust! :)) Can they still suffer with sperm rods too?

I'm very nervous as I will have to bond him with my 4 and I have some serious characters, who knows where the hierarchy will be or if they'll even accept him. I really hope they do. Would it be better to introduce him to the dominant sow first and then add the others? It won't be for some time yet, but I just want to get my metaphorical ducks in a row.

He's roughly 7 months and will be 8ish when he's home, then I plan on a quarantine period... Would he be too hormonal for an introduction now? I plan on introducing them fairly slowly because I really need this to work out!

He's been neutered but by a vet that I don't believe to be particularly piggy savvy and I know he's had some issues, I shall be taking him to my own vet once he's home. Is there anything in particular I should be looking out for? His poor man bits have been infected and treated and touch wood, no abscesses as yet.

Sorry for the essay, any advice on these worries and/or gross boy pigs in general would be appreciated! :)

Yes they can still produce boar glue unfortunately, Donald made a bit of a mess of his tummy when he first came here :)) I've never had the experience of sperm roads and in all have had 3 neutered boars.

Whenever I bond I always introduce to the dominant sow first as they are the ones that have the final say (I think) and I have been extremely lucky with my bondings as most have gone without a hitch.

I don't think he will be too hormonal for an introduction, I think it'll just be a full hormone fest whatever the timing in my experience hehe :)) other than abscesses I think an overall health check is worth while. My Donald was left with an outey following his neuter and the vet has said it isn't a problem/isn't causing him issues but I have noticed that he does manage to pee all down his leg now

Answer to Q:1 - neutered boars still produce boar glue . So... their bits still need the same sort of check ups that intact boars need.

Answer Q:2 - I would start your introductions as soon as he is 6 weeks post neuter . Personally, I don't think you're going to gain anything by doing a gradual introduction - in my opinion , they're either going to get on or not .

Answer Q:3 - I agree, it'd be a good idea to get him vet checked when you have adopted him. I had 2 boars neutered by a vet I will never go back to - one developed and abscess within weeks of being neutered - and the 2nd (Max) developed an abscess 6 month after his neuter . The 1st thing I noticed was a lump in Max's groin . I had found a better vet by then who drained the abscess and it healed ( eventually) .

I think the reason I do a gradual introduction is more for my anxiety than the piggies. When I say I introduce the dominant sow first its that the new piggy and dominant sow are placed in the bonding pit first and then I add the others a minute or so later (limited by the number of hands of course lol)

This is the perfect thread, I would love to add a neutered board to my 4 girls in the future, my first neutered boy was very special to me. I too have some divas, I know my oldest girl would likely accept him as she lived with my past boy and I think my youngest would be okay too as she quickly settle into the lowest position in the herd, but the two twins(their full sisters and came as a pair)might be trouble. Good luck, I hope the boy your interested in, is able to win over all your girls. P.S. I never experienced boar glue or sperm rods with my neutered boy and he was, let's say, a bit frisky with the ladies, lol.

Thanks for all the replies guys! That's a bit of a relief for me. I thought about a gradual introduction purely because it could be quite over whelming for him, he would have been on his own for 7-8 weeks when I get him and then a further week just for quarantine. Also as @Lady Kelly said because I'm going to be nervous as anything so for me too! :))

Yes @PiggyOwner I am worried about potential abscesses too, also the urine infections the poor lad has had. Otherwise he's a very happy boy in himself! Hopefully my vet will put my mind at ease.

@Cocoteemin that's interesting, you'll have to let me know how your bonding goes when you get there! :) I'm very unsure where he's stand because he was the under piggy who challenged his dominant brother... However he's quite placid it's just that he was bullied I think and wouldn't take it.

I can't see him being the boss, maybe 3rd in command? I worry about my 2nd in command Bella, she gives all newbies a hard time. Might give Tonks a break though :))

I know the girls can be a bit rough when being introduced, but he's gotta learn to do what hes told. I've got 3 boys one neutered, one 4weeks until he's safe & one waiting to grow up before he can be gone. I know that Gizmo can't go with anyone, he's a antisocial bugger. Yet he's the cuddliest at lap time.

My boys was introduced over a few days. He did his best to chat the lady up but in the end they just pushed him around a bit then settled, no real drama.

I find it hard to predict. I initially thought that Bea would be trouble as she was quite uppity but within minutes she was snuggled up with Peter. These little furballs always have a means to surprise us
