Hello!
Any advice would be appreciated! I have a lone (around 5 month) boar who needs a cage mate. I have bonded male guinea pigs together in the past and some have gone well, some needed to be separated! It is very hit or miss!
I am considering neutering my guinea pig and pairing him with a female. Does anyone have any opinions on whether this is the best way to create a solidified bond or would getting a baby boar be just the same?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! :)

Hi

You may find our comprehensive neutering guide helpful; it should answer most questions you have and give you a grasp on the subject. But we are happy to discuss any points or anything that is coming up when reading with you further. A lot depends on your vet and the operation/recovery team.

You may also find this guide here interesting because it takes a closer look at the various advantages and challenges that come with the different pair constellations.
Ultimately, it always comes down to a personality match and whether your two piggies want to be together - and the dynamics between them, which are never fully predictable.

Personally, I am a great fan of 'husboars' (neutered boars living with one or several several sows). I have and have had quite a succession of them but I am also the first to admit that acceptance and finding a good match is never a given. When a mixed bond works it is great and the most stable constellation of them all. I have had quite a few life-long love stories over the years.
