Hi everyone!

Our young boar is due to be neutered next week.

I was wondering if he can be returned to the same cage as our two females (the two girls are spayed) immediately or if I should give it some time?

Thank you all

As your girls are spayed he doesn't need to be kept away from them for the six weeks post op time for pregnancy reasons - they are obviously not able to get pregnant. It will be more about how he is recovering and feeling. it might be best to ask your vet what they recommend based on how the op goes, but he is likely to be able to go back in with them after a couple of days - it may simply be a case of ensuring he is feeling better after the anaesthetic and eating well enough.

In terms of adding another sow into your group (I know that is what you are considering doing), then you will not be able to add any more sows for at least six weeks after his surgery

Great thank you

Yes that is the plan longer term wise but it wouldnt be until I am certain that he is fully recovered. I will take him back to the vet and once she okays it we will look into adding a young sow to the group. I have taken the advice of not adding another boar as well
