My guinea pig is 4 years old. I got him and his brother from PetSmart and his brother had always walked in circles and never made noise. Eventually he ended up passing under a year old. I still have his brother and for the last few years he has started to decline. He has slowly developed head tilt and I took him the the vet a year ago for it when he started to walk funky. They said it was an ear infection and we got medicine for him and he got better (still walks funny and bad balance). I keep his house in one path so he can get around easily and have him alone with my girls next to him (they share a wall). Recently he got really sick stopped making noise or eating, I hadn't seen him come out of his house for far too long. The vet said this time it was an eye infection but now it has cleared up and he still has a head tilt and walks all funky. I always give him vitamin c tabs because he doesn't really eat hay and recently got him on critical care. Can it just be permanent brain damage? What can I do to help him live better? He still wheeks very low at me and comes out when I talk to him!

Hi!

Your piggy needs to see a vet as soon as possible.

Are you weighing daily (instead of the regular life-long weekly weigh-in and body check health monitoring) and are you support your piggy with fibrous syringe feed? A guinea pig that is not getting any food to keep the gut going is a doomed guinea pig. In this respect, your care at home is as important as any vet care because the latter cannot get to work when the piggy's body is slowing and then closing down.

Please take the time to read these links here so you can support your piggy properly:

Unfortunately we cannot answer your question as we have neither access hands-on access to your piggy nor are we qualified to replace a vet. It is however an issue that you want to raise with your vet.

PS: Do you have rabbits, too? This is an important question.
