Hi there,

am new to owning a guinea-pig so this might be normal behaviour but thought I would check.

Trevor has a nice little house and I thought he would sleep in there. Instead he pulls all the hay of his hayrack and makes himself a little nest in the middle of the cage. Is this normal behaviour?

Thanks!

hiyah, i would say so, because they dont like the lovely nice tidy clean cages we spend ages doing for them! My little fella does this also!

Maybe just try giving hay in the rack and a little area of bedding hay?

:))

Trevor obviously prefers to sleep in the hay (some piggies do), so you might like to create a hay corner for him to snuggle into. I would recomment that you use some kind of absorbent underlay (megazorb or wood chippings) to keep the hay from turning into a smelly sludge.

Is he single or has he got a friend he can snuggle up to?

Hi,

Smudge used to do this - now I put a pile of hay for him next to his beds as well as in them. This way he can be warm and comfy wherever he decides to sleep. doglovinpiggylover is right - they never appreciate the clean, tidy cages we set up for them. It must be a boy thing!
