Hey guys!

So I recently got a c&c cage for my boys! I'm so happy they have loads more space! I even got them a 1x2 loft (but only 1 piggy is brave enough to use the ramp atm! Think hes hiding the fact theres hidden treats up top from his brother!)

Anyway! So my boys prefer to do their business in a certain place - mostly anyway, so I thought of making a sort of litter tray for them. Ones I found online are all corner ones and I wanted one that was rectangular to fill the back of the cage. After looking everywhere I found some small sized litter trays, filled it with wood shavings and placed it in the cage. Well, stupid me, soon as the boys jumped in, wood shavings everywhere, it was too slippery. I placed a newspaper sheet on the bottom and refilled with wood shavings which seems to help, but I'm not totally convinced! I wondered if anyone else has a litter tray for their piggies and have any tips or ideas?
Also after the initial jumping in theyve not gone near it! I'm probably being impatient but wondered what tips there is to show them to use it at all? I understand some piggies dont get to grips with it, but you gotta try!

Heres a lil pic of the trays!

Sorry for the long post, cant help but ramble on!

@Tahla I used to have similar trays with the front edge cut off so my arthritic pig didn't have to jump in.

I've seen people use bigger plastic tubs and cut holes in them like doors so the contents are more contained.

Nowadays I just leave one end of the cage without fleece and just use puppy pads covered in shavings and hay.

Hi., mine have a corner litter tray which they do wees in a lot, I realised they liked weeing on soft things so have lined the tray with puppy pads and a small fleece blanket, I change this every couple of days.x

I use a scan drip tray from Home Depot uk. It’s 60x60 with low sides. Works really well, very sturdy, and too heavy to be moved around the cage 😊. I’ll try and find a pic x

I use Megazorb to soak up the pee, and pile hay on top of it. Seems to work really well for me.

Medium sized cat litter tray with a puppy pad inside and a layer of wood cat litter pellets on top and then a layer of hay on top of that. Their hay rack hanging next to the tray help keep a lot of mess in there but they still pooped and peed all over the place as piggies do.

Nice tip - thanks :)

I use seed trays from a DIY/garden shop with a firm bottom as well as my hub's very old photographic developing treys; but any flat, open tray will do.

I also used a garden seed tray (cheaper option) with paper lining at the bottom with hay on top.
This seems to work reasonably ok, but they also like to pee and poo on the fleece pads where they rest on!
Since I moved them to an outside hutch its a different story and I'm still working on how they use a sleep and toilet area.
Interesting enough one of my pigs are very conscious and particular but my other one is a bit free-spirited in this area.

Thank you so much everyone for your replies! You've all given me very good ideas!

@Happydays Ive found my piggies like to pee on soft things too! They liked peeing mostly under their wooden house thing, moved that over the litter trays hoping that would help but nope, they went elsewhere! Think I may have to try the puppy pads and fleece in a litter tray!

@Laura mason I like the scan drip tray idea! Deffo will have to try this as the trays I have slip all over the place, especially since my boys like to rearrange the furniture when we're not in!

P.s. Apologies for my delayed reply, I wasnt being rude! Sorry!

I got this on chewy.com it's a large animal litter tray. It's awesome because it has the dip in the front so it's easy for them to get in and out. It is plenty big enough for both of my boys. I use fleece and waterproof bed pads, so I throw one in and change it every couple of days.

Omg this is amazing! Saves having to try and cut the litter trays myself! Gunna go have a gander now! Thank you so much!
