So Penelope recently went and got her back molars filed. Everything’s been great but her pee has started smelling weird again. She had blood in her pee 6 months ago and antibiotics cured it up. However her pee has started smelling again, suspect a uti. The vet seems concerned that there may be a stone since the uti is back after 6 months. I don’t even know. He prescribed her Enrofloxacin. I believe it’s bay trill.

well during all this minnie has started having soft poops. She is not a veggie diet as there have been isssues with her gut before. She’s doing fine and she gets vitamin c tablets along with Timothy and orchard hay. Also gets an oxbow digestive tablet. Well the vet said he felt some gas so he didn’t know what to do with her. Told me baby gas drops but I thought those were bad. Cause gas to form one big bubble and it’s bad. He prescribed her metoclopramide along with some gripe water I have at home. He also sent her poops out. Guess we’ll see if that works.

mocha I noticed had a rock to her this morning but I didn’t see it again. It may have been me not seeing anything. He said we could put her on antibiotics but if it was him HED keep a close eye on her. Well I live 2 and a half hours away from this exotic vet so I told them just to put her on the antibiotics. Well he put her on meloxicam as well? I don’t know why exactly. Plus it says Penelope and mocha have a shared prescription of the Enrofloxacin. Ir doesn’t even see on the thing how much to give mocha so the vets has to call me back later. I’m so frustrated with everything.

I hope minnies poops clear up with this gut stimulant and gripe water. I hope Penelope’s uti isn’t anything to worry about and I don’t even know what to say for mocha. Spent 350 dollars at the vet today 🥲

feel like I left without anything.

I don’t even know what I should be doing. He said minnies tummy feels a little bit gassy and put her on the metoclopramide. However now I am reluctant to give it to her because she is eating and drinking well. Has not lost any weight. I thought you’d start the metoclopramide if her guts weren’t moving?

what can I do to get rid of the gassiness? Her tummy doesn’t feel hard to me and it’s not blown up like a balloon but I don’t want it to escalate to severe bloat. He also said I could try the gripe water but I have no idea how much to give her.😕

I don't know much about the medical side of things, but I am sorry you have to deal with this, I know it can be rough. I spent over 300 dollars on my pair the first few weeks I had them because they came to me so sick and the person who had them before seemingly never noticed their issues. My vet is really great and she definitely did help them a lot, but having to see her so many times in the first few months I got them was very frustrating.

I hope your piggies recover from all of their issues soon and I hope it's not too stressful for you! Hang in there!

Awe poor little babies, how are they doing now? The vet bills get to be so pricey and they seem to always get poorly at the most inconvenient times. Not that there is ever a convenient time for them to get sick but they seem to find the very worst times to.

Thank you! It’s very nice to have emotional support during these times. 🥰 It always makes me an anxious mess whenever they are sick. I’ve never had this much trouble with them and medication before 😕

I am happy to say they are doing great now! 😊 It was a long and expensive process, but I'm so glad I don't have to be constantly worried about them anymore. I moved to Germany from the US and vet care is cheaper here, I can't imagine what treating them would have cost back in the US. I can definitely understand being frustrated about the cost, especially when you don't feel like you're being adequately helped.

I was an anxious mess while they were sick too. I was so worried I actually had multiple dreams about them dying (thanks brain 🙄 lol) I know that feeling of frustration and helplessness and it's definitely not easy caring for multiple sick piggies. I hope some of the great medicine savvy people on here will be able to give you advice soon!

Awe that’s amazing! I’m very glad they are doing much better now ❤️ I don’t quite understand why vet care is so expensive in the US. Kind of makes me feel like they just want money and don’t really care about the animals. Once in a while, you can find a good vet that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg! I’m glad you have cheaper vet care there! Tell them to send some vets to the
US please 😅

I completely get that! I get the same exact way. I’m just so anxious, I have horrible dreams. I’ll cry thinking something bad will happen to them. It’s so hard because they’re so fragile and you never know whether you’re making the right decision.

I have Minnie out now and her poops LITERALLY look great! I’m so very confused as they were quite soft earlier today and had tails on them. I am quite paranoid with the vets saying she was a bit gassy. Now I can’t tell if her tummy is hard or soft! It feels soft but I feel like I’m psyching myself out. The thing is, she doesn’t seem in pain when I touch her belly! Maybe I could try the gripe water for the time being until someone could offer some helpful advice 😕❤️

Just to update anybody new reading this: I have decided to give minnie the dosage of metoclopramide. It says every 8 hours and I also gave her .3 of Mommy’s Bliss Gripe water.
I would rather be safe than sorry with bloat, knowing how severe it usually is.

Yes, enrofloxacin is baytril
If a stone is suspected, are further checks going to be done?

Certain types of baby gas relief drops aren't good for piggies - we recommend that anything containing simethicone is avoided but gripe water is fine

Are you weighing them both daily? If not, then do start to do so - it will help you more closely monitor what is going on with their hay intake.

Digestive Disorders: Diarrhea - Bloat - GI Stasis (No Gut Movement) And Not Eating

He said if the antibiotics don’t clear up Penelope’s pee problems then yes. They will look more into it if that’s the case.

that’s what I was seeing. The baby gas drops gather all the gas to one big gas bubble in their tummy’s which is not good. He recommended baby gas drops and I told him what I have heard about them and he said he has never heard that before 🤷🏼‍♀️

also yes I am weighing them everyday at 11am. Nobody has lost any weight. The thing that confuses me is that Minnie lays down just fine. Doesn’t flinch in pain when her tummy is touched. Eats and drinks great. Doesn’t act like a piggy that would have bloat. I’m nervous the gripe water and the gut stimulant medicine will be bad if she doesn’t have bloat! He said he felt gas in her tummy as he wasn’t able to feel much when feeling her belly for her exam.
