Hi,

Some of you may know me.

I have two 1 year old sows ( thier names are in my username ) and they currently live outside in the garage in the pets@home rose cottage.

As I am getting quite busy with school work ect and it gets dark at roughly 6 now and 4 in Mid December, I had the idea of keeping them inside.
They would have a 2x4 or 2x5 or 2x6 cage in the family room which is quite warm and not very noisy.
I have spotted a 'shoe rack' aka c and c cage on the Argos website.

Only problem is my Mum doesn't want them inside!
Please, any persuasion tips much needed!

Thanks for reading,
Emily

Hello! Can I ask why she is against having them inside?

Initially we had ours in a sort of utility room a bit removed from the main rooms in the house, and one winter it was very cold so we moved them into the kitchen where it was nice and warm and all our pigs have been there ever since! We get to say hello to them every time we go into kitchen and they squeak a lot more and talk to us :) they don't smell or anything and it's only really the hay that likes to get everywhere.

My Mum thinks they moult and smell.

The pigs themselves really don't smell, although in hot weather the cage can if its not been cleaned for a few days! (Not really going to be an issue in winter!)

They do moult but I've never really noticed their hair getting everywhere. (Apart from my long haired guinea pig, but that's only when she's on my lap really that you notice it all over your clothes!). It's the hay that's more a pain, but because we have racks on the outside of the cage (so they pull the hay through the cage bars) the hay can spill out everywhere. Depends on your cage set up really!

Don't really know if this has helped you at all!

Mums and dads respond well to reasuring words the number 1 you will look after them
Resposabaly, 2 they will not interfer with your school work, and 3 that you are comited enough
Not to lose interst a fews weeks down the line and leave the job of looking after the pigs to them!

Take them to one side and listen to there posibale objections and talk to them about each point
They bring up, without loosing your temper

I hope you persade them . Please let us know if the let you keep them
