My guinea pig Prince Harry is 4 and half when I got home tonight he didn't seem himself, he suddenly looked so old.

I have just noticed that his breathing is really noisy like snoring, he's eaten a good tea and he's bright, he's in no distress and though breathing noisy he's having no problems breathing. He's wrapped in a blanket next to me and he's looking round and taking notice. His teeth are fine and he's grumbling like hell when I check him. It's going to be pretty impossible to get a vet given the terrible weather and that said I don't think he's actually ill but I can't help that he's slipping away.

Wanda sorry to hear Prince Harry doesn't look himself :( - has he a wet nose?I worried that Maurice had a respiratory infection as his nostril was wet this morning but has since not been throughout the day - I am not sure what else to suggest but sending lots of Scottish get well wishes xx

No his nose is dry, he just looks so frail. He's snuggled up with Sparky in his travel box will keep him at my bedside tonight. Have Baytril in from when Pippin was poorly have given him 0.2mls (he's had it before) and syringed water and Pro-C (similar to critical care) into him

How is he this morning Wanda? Have you seen him eating - dry food/hay/veggies - anything?

Keep with the critical care - he may rally - I have had pigs that go really chesty and snuffly but do pick up - let us know how you are getting on. xx

I remember when you got Harry from Sokel.............. xx

That happened with my two old ones at around 4 and a half- one year on all they do is sleep and wake up to eat. Hopefully all it is is age, we had one guinea pig like that for 4 years! x

Keep up the baytril until you can get to a vet. How does he seem this morning?

Good morning well there is good news and bad news.

I checked him this morning and was greeted by a happy bright eyed Prince Harry who was delighted to be starting his day :)). I popped him back in his cage for his breakfast and thats when alarm bells rang.

I watched him carefully he only ate a very small breakfast I lifted him out of his cage and placed him on the floor and my suspicions were confirmed. His back end "has gone" he is not able to move his back legs, they are dragging behind him 8....

Prince Harry is comfy and in no distress, he's alert and looking round he's laid on a towel next to me (I have to go to work this afternoon, Pants) but Sparky is a good nurse. Any advise on caring him through this would be a great help he's long haired and already wet and smelly at the back, I am going to lay him on towels and keep changing them. Shall I separate him from Sparky?, I really don't want to do this as they have been good friend for 2 and half years and I believe he deserves his friend by his side at a time like this.

I believe Prince Harry's life is drawing to a close and I want him to go peacefully and with those he loves and who love him. He deserves that.

Oh Wanda I am so sorry to hear that Prince Harry is not very well at all - I am sure Sparky will nurse him through big hugs to you all xx

I would keep him with Sparky so they can comfort each other x

Thank you, have just put him back in his cage so I can get ready for work and Harry was out of his bed like a shot despite having only 2 working legs to get to Sparky
