Hi all

Hope you can help me

My boar of 4.5 years has been diagnosed with a bladder stone and we need to remove it asap.

I really don’t want him to have surgery as the risks are so high :( but we may have no choice.

Please could you let me know if you know of any places that do lithotripsy as that will be less traumatic than open surgery.

If you could let me know asap I would really appreciate it as I can’t find information on the internet on places which offer this service and I have called quite a few vets now.

Thank you
Sandra

Sorry you are going through this with your boy.
As Piggies&Buns has already said if you are able to give us your location then people will be able to offer specific suggestions based on where you live.

Thank you. I’m based in isleworth , west London.

Biffy is now quite weak and seems to be falling asleep, one side seems to be weakening.

Can Guinea pigs survive surgery?

I’m so sorry to hear this.
I would suggest you call your vet given the immediate situation, weakness and lethargy.

There are piggies on here who have had to stones removed via surgery. The problem with boars and bladder stones is that they have an angle in their urethra which stones often cannot pass and get stuck there. If that occurs, then it is sadly a life threatening emergency.

Is he eating for himself?
Are you weighing him daily to ensure he is eating enough and syringe feeding him if he isn’t maintaining his weight.
