Hiyas all!

I currently have my 5 piggies in 4 connected cages. However, the bedroom they are in is for them only, I take them out to play a lot and figured I might as well convert half of the room into a cage. I'm just not sure how to build it, what material to use though. I don't want it closed in by 4 walls they can't see through (they love interacting with the dog through the cage a lot). So I'm at a total loss on how to make one wall see-though, chicken wireish if you will. Or even what building material is safe for them.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

We've just done a two tier cage (not what you want, but just wanted to share what materials we used). The base is MDF, 3 sides of both up and down are something called melamine and the front has perspex on it.

That houses two boars at the top and two at the bottom.

I'm sure others will be along shortly to give you some help :)

Ohhhh, that's an awesome idea with the perspex! My mind was stuck on needing a wire cage thing. Is the MDF treated with anything? I'm terrified of having them be exposed to a chemical. It should be pretty easy to build a large 3 sided box, with no top and something like that perspex, line the bottom with blankets and call it a day. I just couldn't live with myself if I messed up and used a material that harmed one of them =(

The MDF isn't treated no, it's just got fablon over the top, I've forgotten the name of it over in the US, it's sticky back waterproof plastic.

Yeah I know what you mean, they are little so and so's for chewing wood lol.

This is my cage thread so you can actually see for yourself how it was done.

@Mark Harmon might have some idea's for you, he's also built his own cage :)

To protect your floor you could lay down some sacrificial vinyl to protect your floor. I personally build the carcass from mdf and use 4mm polycarbonate on one side so they can see out and so it is less claustrophobic. I lay vinyl inside so at each end the vinyl rolls up so I only have to seal the back and front edges with silicone.

Hi Derium, welcome to the forum.

I recently build a cage myself with wood and chicken wire. I'm trying to find the thread with all the photos.

One thing I'd consider if I were making a half room cage is that you have access from all sides, not just the front.
