Hi everybody. So I've got two guinea pigs, they both get along quite good and everything else seems fine. But. Is there any way to change the time when they wake up? Or how to teach them not to nag the cage? I can't get enough sleep. The sound is just crazy. I tried giving them a lot more food before sleep (about 00:00 or 01:00) but still, they wake up at about 06:30 and here comes the concert... Any tips guys? Thanks in advance

I have no clue... my boys are very lazy and never wake me up. They wait for me to get up and crack the bedroom door open and then let the chorus begin :)) Maybe rearrange the cage every night before bed time and put new toys in there at night? I wish I had more advice but maybe someone else will be along soon with more helpful tips. Good luck :)

Oh dear..........erm i don't have mine sleeping in with me..........
i'm sure someone who has them sleeping in their room can help with suggestions :)
And welcome to you and the piggies to the forum :)
Hope you enjoy looking around, maybe you could post some pigtures of your little ones? whee love pigtures drool

SOMEBODY else help please?

Glynis, Velvet and Onyx x

Could you give them some toys like toilet rolls (split down the middle so they don't get stuck!) stuffed with hay? Don't give them paper bags to play in cos they rustle it on purpose all night :)

I guess you could try not to answer the wheeks so they know they don't get food til you get up?

I am too much of a soft touch to answer this - when ours slept in our room Storm used to bang the hayrack on purpose in the middle of the night - she knew I would get up and give her noms and hay :)

What about some hanging balls that you put their food in, if you got several it should keep them entertained throughout the night then by morning they're too tired :p

Mine start at 6 every morning too. I find they stop if you ignore them though. They know when you are going to wake up and will start wheeking as they expect food. :))

Try having a bedtime area. I cover the haylofts up with fleece when I go to bed ( pegged on ) and my pigges rush up the ramp and settle down. They know they won't get breakfast until I come down and uncover the lofts so generally ( obviously there are always exceptions! ) they stay up there happily snuggled together and quiet until I'm ready, if they get hungry they come down the ramp and finish their nuggets off and then go back up to bed! Of course the minute I go into "daylight" mode they expect to be fed IMMEDIATELY! :))

I'm the same my guinea's are in lounge - i only slept recently in lounge when mum was pregnant.

The moment my bedroom door opens though pigs wheek - so I could be just going to the loo and they wheek :(|)

Ive got an idea..............rustle a carrier bag before you feed them.

Dont feed them unless you rustle a carrier bag - that way they will associate carrier bag with food.

If 6am is not the time you want to feed them I would say try ignore them if they wheek at 6am (sounds hard but if you respond to their wheeks at 6am with food they will think its feeding time every morning at 6am).

Feed them same time every day - rustle carrier bag before - and they will get to learn the time.

covering their cage with fleece or material is also good idea thats been advised by others :))

Hope this is good advice and helps rolleyes

thats a gr8 idea

Hey guys :) Thanks for all the tips :) My piggies are quite smart. Ignoring them is a pretty bad idea - first they start wheeking, if * ignore them - they start nagging the cage. That sound just drives me crazy. Unfortunately, I live in Lithuania, so shops here don't offer a lot of stuff for piggies. I tried few "Food Toys" for hamsters, rabbits, piggies but none of them where interesting for my boars. Since i'm working 17 hours a day, i give them a hell lot of vegetables in the morning and a lot of veggies and dry food when i come back i think they shouldn't be hungry. But still... Gonna try some stuff and post some results :) I'll post pictures soon :)
